If you’re looking for a super-sensational, tantalizingly-terrific, and spectacularly-massive DVD position containing some of the greatest comedy moments in TV history, then peek no further than this large 25-Disc DVD region containing every last episode of “The Dick Van Dyke Prove”, the multiple Emmy Award-winning CBS-TV comedy series which ran from 1961 to 1966.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Dick Van Dyke Show – The Complete Series! Click Here

This Complete-Series mega DVD collection houses all five seasons of the very comic and perpetually-entertaining Van Dyke Note, encompassing 158 total episodes, all restored and remastered by Image Entertainment and Paul Brownstein Productions, with each episode exhibiting darn-near perfect video and audio quality. And every single episode is complete and unedited. Not a single second of any note has been prick out. Average running time per episode is a shade more than 25 minutes.

All 158 shows have been bundled together here to construct one grand and money-saving ‘Complete-Series’ collection. Each of the twenty-five discs gets its possess individual “ThinPak” (slimline) plastic case. Each case has unusual and nicely-designed conceal art (featuring a different publicity detached photograph on every one of the 25 cases) . Additional photos grace the abet hide of each case, as well as more Van Dyke Expose pictures (and a complete “Scene Selections” list for each of that platter’s 6 or 7 episodes) on the inside of every case. (These plastic cases are the “obvious” type, so you can read the “Scene” listing on the inside front covers true through the plastic.)

The encourage of each of these slim cases provides hastily at-your-fingertips info about each expose on that disc — such as: Stout episode titles; Film dates; Novel CBS-TV air dates; Brief episode descriptions; Plus some crew credits (”Written by” and “Directed by” notations) . The 158 episodes are arranged here by “Production” (or “Film Date”) order, instead of an “Air Date” chronology.*

* = With one (very wise) exception being Episodes 157 and 158. “The Gunslinger” was actually the last (158th) Van Dyke episode to be filmed; with “The Last Chapter” being the final episode that was aired, in June 1966. So, for superb continuity sake, Image Entertainment has flipped the order of these two episodes on the last disc of Season #5 — with “The Last Chapter” being presented as the final present of the series.

More Packaging Notes — The 25 individually-cased discs in this Mega-Set are placed side-by-side inside a spacious outer “slipcase” box.

Image Entertainment distributed five separate season-by-season “Dick Van Dyke Exhibit” DVD boxed sets in 2003 and 2004, with each of those five sets featuring a 5-Disc slipcase box. However, those individual seasonal slipcases from each of the previously-released Van Dyke seasons are NOT included in this Mega-Set.

Many, many supplemental bonus features are also included on these twenty-five Digital Discs, including: Audio Commentary tracks for many episodes, along with cast interviews, recent TV commercials, Emmy Award snippets, documentaries, featurettes, photo galleries, behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage, Easter Eggs, trivia games, CBS-TV promos, and gobs of other runt though-provoking extra tidbits besides! A 12-page booklet, packed with appealing info about the series, is also a fraction of this Dick Van Dyke Expose bonanza too.

There are even full-length TV-show bonuses included on selected discs, including a complete episode of “The Danny Thomas Prove” (which has Van Dyke Exhibit character “Buddy Sorrell” popping up) .

Other complete TV-show extras include the unique “Pilot” episode for “The Dick Van Dyke Point To” (called “Head Of The Family”) ; plus a full-length 46-minute CBS-TV documentary made in the mid-1990s (”The Dick Van Dyke Point To Remembered”) ; and an absolutely-outstanding and ultra-fun-to-watch TV game reveal entitled “Stump The Stars” (aka: “Mike Stokey’s Pantomime Expect”), which has several Van Dyke Indicate cast members playing a exciting charades game. Ample, big fun!

If you want to know the beefy details regarding each and every cramped bonus extra you can interrogate to gain on these 25 discs, you can observe out my extensive reviews for each of the separate Van Dyke Reveal boxed sets here at Amazon.com. If you type in “VAN DYKE Explain SEASON” while searching under “DVDs” here at Amazon, you’ll accumulate a convenient and handy search result that places links to all five of the Van Dyke seasonal sets on honest one webpage for easy reference.

Pull out any one of these 25 discs and you’ll have some enormous shows, including all of Remove Petrie’s inimitable physical comedy bits — not to mention Dick Van Dyke’s unsurpassed ability to act out a “one-way telephone conversation” (which always amazes me when I notice him do this — and there are many such “telephone” moments during the series) . Then, too, via this extraordinary boxed position, you’ll also net every one of Laura Petrie’s (Mary Tyler Moore) “crying jags”, plus all the standout “Prefer & Laura dancing and singing” scenes. And don’t forget about all those “Buddy insults Mel” gags (which must number in the hundreds over the course of the series) .

Just suffice it to say that I fancy this television program. …. Its humor is timeless. The characters seem “true” and “non-phony”. And the writing is mighty. And you’ll be able to view why when you pop in any of these wonderfully-restored Digital Versatile Discs.

“THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW: THE COMPLETE SERIES” DVD collection is, without terror of argument, a “complete worship”.

… what the Beatles were to pop music! Already available on DVD as separate seasons, this boxed situation puts the entire 158 episodes under one roof. It’s no exaggeration to set that THE DICK VAN DYKE Expose came as halt to perfection as location comedies could be. Any plan that you want to study at it, this display was state-of-the-art! The cast was incandescent without exception, from the Petrie family (Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Larry Mathews) to Rob’s co-workers (Morey Amsterdam, Rose Marie, Richard Deacon), their neighbors, and a who’s-who of guest stars (Don Rickles, Greg Morris, Jerry Van Dyke, etc.) who contributed to the humor without upstaging the regulars.

Not to mention Carl Reiner, who not only was effective on-screen but very creative behind-the-scenes. He merely invented the demonstrate, for one. In fact, another ingredient that places the present on a pedestal is the quality of the writing. Amazingly, there is a consistency over the thirty-plus episodes (multiplied by five years) that makes me hard-pressed to judge of even one subpar exhibit in this series (”The Twizzle,” maybe? ) . Certain, some shows stand out: the walnut episode, Alan Brady’s wig disclosure by Laura, the “unsuitable baby” episode, and so on. Yet every explain is a delight to peek again and again. The humor is genuinely witty and most of the topics are unexcited relevant even today. In fact, I sometimes mediate that watching the scheme Engage and Laura realistically dealt with a wide range of human emotions (jealousy, etc.) and marital situations (misunderstandings, etc.) was probably an effective early compose of marital counseling for many viewers.

Yes, the explain is of its time: you’ll regain yourself dropped honest in the center of the early-1960s, moral on the brink of changing attitudes regarding gender, hurry, marriage, etc. Bewitch and Laura slept in separate beds? Yeah, fair. Not to mention Laura wore the capri pants in the family. Yet the show’s overall vision elevated it to timeless space. The series’ style may be dated to the era in which it was created, but the substance remains relevant and laugh-at-loud comic even four decades after their modern broadcasts. Other reviewers have remarked on all of the DVD extras, huge video quality, etc. All of that is considerable, but the bottom line is the greatness of the reveal itself. It seems as if every t.v. point to that ever existed is being reissued on DVD, moreso than anyone could possibly have time to gaze. You’ll want to construct time for THE DICK VAN DYKE Indicate, though!

Shohei Imamura did something extraordinary with his film ‘The Ballad of Narayama.’ Not only did he attempt to update a approved Japanese story, he was creating an alternate version of the established classic, made by Keisuke Kinoshita [see Twenty Four Eyes] at the height of his powers. Reverence for the worn is a hallmark of Japanese society, so the musty tradition of mountain people of exposing their no-longer productive relations on a mountaintop to die is very horrid to the Japanese. Kinoshita addressed the myth in a very stylized diagram, distancing the viewer from the action and thereby making the actions of these bad people somehow less awful. Imamura, in stark dissimilarity, emphasized the savagery of the frail mountain society by parallelling it with the savagery of the natural world in which it, too, must survive. Imamura thereby makes the tradition seem somewhat inevitable and all the more intriguing because of its inexorability. These people aren’t inhuman savages. They are survivors in a harsh environment. Imamura examines character so honestly that the people he depicts are revealed in their just humanity, and their actions are shown to be all the more tragic. A triumph for Imamura.

“The Ballad of Narayama,” by director Shohei Imamaura, is a very depressing and haunting film. But that is not to say the film is not a titanic film. The film deals with the harsh realities of life in a 19th Japanese village. This village is limited, and more importantly hunger-stricken. The community concerns of survival outweigh the morality of those who must score their deaths when they arrive the age of 70. The villagers in this 19th-century Japanese village must adhere to a very strict policy regarding population control if they are to survive. And what does this mean? Well for starters, the elderly are sent to die approach a mountain called Narayama when they arrive the age of 70.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Ballad of Narayama! Click Here

This is not a joyful film, for the most fragment, yet the viewer must understand that the very survival of the villagers depend upon survival in its most crude gain. Stealing food in this village means instant death. Truly a disturbing film—yet we must not pass judgment, because for these villagers, their very lives depend on draconian measures. Because starvation is a chronic threat to the villagers, draconian measures must be adhered to. And in this village death is an current fact of life. The first time I viewed this film I was very gloomy by it, however, viewing it again recently made me understand that these villagers must adhere to strict policies if they are to survive. It is too easy to pass judgment on there villagers: they must do what they can in order to survive. However, there is also humor in this film. But the rather shaded fate of those who come the age of 70, and must gain their death, makes one forget about the comic parts [at least to me].

The cruel realities of this village are not lost on the viewer. And many may have a difficult time with this film. But it is at least worth a behold. [I bear the VHS]. Although it is not one of those films one takes out too often for repeated viewings, it is one that everyone should opinion at least once. The film centers on the life of one elderly woman named Orin (Sumiko Sakamoto) . She is now in her seventieth year of life, and must therefore prepare to die. Her son Tatsuhei (Ken Ogata) has the responsibility of taking his mother up to the putrid of Narayama to die. This is truly an unforgettable film. This self-sacrifice for the survival of the village will leave a lasting and searing image in your mind, especially as you idea Orin about to face her inevitable death. This is not a film one soon forgets after viewing. This film is highly recommended. [Stars: 4.5]

Finally us Eurohorror fans rep something to sink our teeth into, a complete 5 disc box status featuring all four Blind Unimaginative films together for the first time!

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Blind Dead Collection! Click Here

The first disc is Tombs of the Blind Lifeless. If you owned (I said “owned” because hopefully you’ve sold it by the time this box site comes out) the previous double feature release by Anchor Bay Entertainment, forget all about is as this disc blows their version away. Now you don’t only have to inspect it in in Spanish with English subtitles as you can resolve to inspect English dubbed or subtitled versions. Some people capture subtitles and some capture dubbing, and Blue Underground Entertainment has graciously allowed both options to please fans. The special features include the alternate opening sequence entitled “REVENGE OF THE PLANET APE” as well as the English theatrical trailer and a Poster/Still gallery.

The second disc is “Return of the Spoiled Lifeless”, and again it is grand better than the novel Anchor Bay release. That version you can only watched dubbed, but here you can scrutinize it subtitled or dubbed. The Anchor Bay version was also not the complete version of the film. Blue Underground’s modern release is FULLY UNCUT for the first time on DVD! The extras include the U.S. & Spanish Theatrical trailers and a sill gallery.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Blind Dead Collection! Click Here

The third disc is the highly antisipated third entry into the series entitled “The Ghost Galleon”. The version released in those ultra crappy “Brentwood” value pack (Die Hard “Blind Boring” fans know what I’m taking about) under the title “Zombie Flesh Eater” was literally unwatchable so this it’s no wonder fans have been drooling over this release. Inludes a quiet gallery and the U.S. Fright of the Zombies Triler, TV Spots and Radio Spots. Sadly this one is only dubbed in English. Oh well, you can’t have it all.

The fourth disc is the fourth and final film in the series “Night of the Seagulls”. Again there is NO COMPARISON to the current Brentwood value pack version entitled Night of the Deathcult. That was an unacceptable version. I’m cheerful to discover it properly released domestically. Includes the theatrical trailer and a mild gallery.

The fifth disc entitled AMANDO DE OSSORIO – DIRECTOR, is only avaiable in this box situation. It includes to fan exquisite documentaries entitled “The Last Templar – Documentary on Writer/Director Amando de Ossorio” and “Unearthing the Blind Unimaginative – Interview with Writer/Director Amando de Ossorio”. For the DVD-Rom it includes another documetnary entitled “Farewell to Spain’s Knight of Dismay”. Mammoth disc to please us die hard fans.

Please sell your outmoded Anchor Vay Double Feature of Tombs of the Blind Tiring, and Return of the Blind Dumb while its peaceful worth money as when this box site hits the stores, no one will want it. Absorb me, this site is WELL worth getting, and it even comes in a coffin shaped box!! To top it off, a 40 page booklet is included which gives all the info Blind Expressionless fans ever wanted!

Other info: Color * Dolby Digital Mono * 16×9 * 537 Mins * Not Rated * Space Code: 1 * Tombs Of The Blind Listless & Return Of The Unpleasant Dead: 1.66:1 * Ghost Galleon & Night Of The Seagulls: 1.85:1

The blind uninteresting collection is unbelievable, it contains all 4 films in the series complete and uncut and a fifth disc with a short documentary on the spanish director Amando De Ossorio and an interview. The films are probably a broad example of the euro dismay genre with the amount of blood, gore and nudity. The films also have a mountainous gothic atmosphere and excelent music especialy when the templar knights rise from their tombs and initiate riding their horses its very creepy. I have heard alot of grand things about these films from other awe websites and when I finaly got to behold them I was not dissapointed well except for the third film Ghost galleon which I admit was a peice of crap.

Tombs of the blind stupid which centres on an nasty cult of knights known as the Templars in the 13th century tortured and murdered innocent victims in a quest for eternal life. After a revolt by the local townspeople, the Templar knights were executed and their corpses left for the crows to peck out their eyes. Years later, awe begins again as the eyeless undead knights rise from their tombs to hunt their victims by sound. The victims include a couple on a swear and an faded friend, the girl gets fustrated with her friend so she decides to jump off the allege in the middle of no where nice one!. The film wasn’t exactly hideous but it was creepy as hell I absolutly loved it, the film was a different engage on the zombie genre which I plan was an new thought the Templar knights are basicly mummified skeletons that wear robes and usualy hack or gash their victims with swords and drink their blood.

Return of the blind unimaginative which is the sequal, those who have complained about the continuety of the films should realise that all the films on their possess have different storylines and even the background of the templar knights is different. In Return of the blind stupid the templars earn their eyes burnt out in the begining by the villigers for commiting human sacrifices, 500 years later the Templar knights return from the grave to terrorize a rural Portugese village during it’s centennial celebration. Sooner than later a microscopic group of people including the mayor, the mayor’s wife, a wife and husband and their young child ect. buy refuge in a deserted cathedral and must accumulate a procedure to hasten from the Templars. This film was deffinently my accepted out of the series since it was the goriest film (nice decapitation scene) and as cheesy and ridicioulos as it may seem you also procure to survey a living uninteresting horse……..

The ghost galleon was truly terrible while not the worst film I have ever seen I notion it was fine terminate, with cheap production values and an Ed Wood style of filmmaking and a dreadful script I unprejudiced notion it was horrendous. The ship that they consume as background shots is a toy model ship passe in a bathtub incase you were wondering. A pair of models staging a publicity stunt on the sea in a motor inaugurate mysteriously proceed after reporting a mysterious ghost ship wooooow. After learning the ghost ship has been seen along the meridian the girls disappeared at for years, a search sets out and discovers that the ship is inhabited by the undead Templar knights. The film has honest one gore scene and the rest of the film was bloodless and the acting oh dear which I didn’t mediate would be possible is even worse than the previous films.

Night of the seagulls is the last in the series and is surprisingly salubrious and a ample improvement over Ghost gallion, on this outing the Templars haunt a fishing village where they rise seven nights every seven years to claim a virgin for their sacrificial offerings in return for the safety of the townspeople. I was happy when they brought serve the blood and gore while the film wasn’t the best in the series it was composed genuine. all four discs have trailers for the films themselves and a picture/poster gallery and overall I consider that Blue underground did a vast job releasing these obscure alarm films and I highly recomend this especialy for euro fear fans while other viewers should discover something else cause you might peruse that it was a destroy of time and money like some other reviewers have said.

I view it was money well spent even if it was a bit to expensive almost 90$, its better than ordering something like Strip nude for your killer (What the hell was I thinking!!? ) theres another addition by anchor bay but you can only accept it on E-Bay. The films were astounding except for Ghost gallion and its prefrebly watched after midnight cause thats the best time to leer these.

If you don’t like classic comedy, you’re not going to like this either. But for me, this is my first conclude when I need to consume a shatter from the Marx Brothers (who I gawk scheme too worthy) . These films are note A for Bob Hope’s comedic talents, and Bing’s cooler than you or I will ever be. Plus with Bing around, I’m actually jubilant to listen when the songs approach, which is not the case for most 30’s and 40’s Hollywood films. Morocco is my popular, but any of these four films can brighten a unlit day. There are a few decent extras on this area, and for $20 it’s a buy. If you’re willing to notice a comedy made before “Animal House,” you should go ahead and lift the drop into Hope and Crosby’s world.

Wow! The first four Hope and Crosby road pics on one DVD! What can you say? The first two, ROAD TO SINGAPORE and ROAD TO ZANZIBAR (though unexcited droll) are detached trying to flesh out the chemistry of the duo and the two actors adhere to the scripts. Then, they hit their plug of hilarity and smash out in ROAD TO MORROCCO and continues in ROAD TO UTOPIA. However, in ROAD TO ZANZIBAR evidence of what is to near in Hope and Crosby’s future pairings comes advance the kill of the film. The two are captured by cannibals in Africa and are tested to glance if they are gods (sort of a variation of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING) . Hope’s character is forced to wrestle a gorilla in a caged match. This is very droll as Hope shows his ability for physical comedy. Then, the climax is when they are about to be literally cooked for dinner. They exercise their patented “patty-cake” routine to dash from the cannibals. This is even more hilarious than the gorilla scene. Then, in ROAD TO MOROCCO, the illustrious ad-libbing and snappy fire delivery of dialogue is apparent and the film is zany from beginning to kill as the duo are eager with a Moroccan Princess (Dorothy Lamour) and an wrathful Shiek (Anthony Quinn) . Then, in ROAD TO UTOPIA the two go to Alaska for the gold urge and rep enthusiastic in a case of erroneous identity. Overall, the four films showcase one of the astronomical pairings in the history of entertainment and some of the funniest and successful film franchises. The DVD package has microscopic extras except for a couple of sing-along features and liner notes, but having the four films on one disc at a effect lower than some other collection discs is worth it.

This collection of “classic” science fiction gets three stars for value because there are fifty movies for an incredibly vulgar brand. On the other hand, you glean what you pay for. Some movies in this group almost rise to the level of classic; including a couple that surprised me. Most of these movies are Mystery Science Theater 3000 fodder, and many of them actually appeared on MST3000. Highlights, or lowlights, as you prefer:

They Came from Beyond Space: Considering that this movie is one of the best in this collection, I should be nice to it.

Warning from Space: Crams too many yarn lines into less than an hour and a half, but otherwise a decent movie.

Eegah: The prototype for the character Jaws in the James Bond movies, only living in a cave.

Planet Outlaws: It’s Buck Rogers!

Phantom Planet: Has its moments, beneficial, poor, and unpleasant.

Colossus and the Amazon Queen: Rod Taylor in a droll sword and sandals movie; about as dreadful as it sounds.

Destroy All Planets: Gammera (or Gamera) trots about saving shrimp boys that capture submarines and glean captured by aliens.

Please forgive me if I missed a movie or two in this list. There are a lot of movies in this collection, so I might have overlooked one, either unintentionally or intentionally. If you are a great science fiction fan, you will luxuriate in many of these movies. Even the movies you rep less than okay are friendly for one scrutinize, and the ticket of this collection will hold your personal injure obscene. Honorable luck!

Is there such a thing as a awful movie made in Italy? Probably, but at least the scenery’s usually obedient. I can’t imagine A Pleasant Woman working in a setting like Unusual York or London, but I don’t have to. It’s spot in 1930’s Amalfi, the perfect background for a record like this one. Professional mistress Mrs. Erlynne flees to Italy when too many wives are on to her at home. On the ship, she notices a newspaper photo of a young couple, and she knows exactly what her next travel should be. The young wife is innocent and naive, and all sorts of innuendo and gossip go flying around Amalfi that season.

This is a woman’s represent, and Helen Hunt as the adventuress has never looked more handsome. Her reveal, unfortunately, is rather too clipped and less sultry than it need to be, but in the demolish, she pulls of her role. Scarlett Johanssen is well-suited to her character, and both women turn out to be more than they seem at the kill. Fair wardrobe, very subtle music, and a aesthetic performance by Tom Wilkinson, as a jaded, expat Brit who has learned a miniature something about reality and happiness, add to the success of this production.

I’m now off to read the Oscar Wilde unusual.

Some people like to skydive or rock climb for adventure. I must admit, at this stage in my life, adventure (for me) is jumping into a movie that I know absolutely nothing about and hoping for the best. Heroic, huh? Such is the case with the vaguely titled “A Edifying Woman.” I knew it starred Helen Hunt, Tom Wilkinson and Scarlett Johannson–and that was enough to lead me on the “adventure” of discovering this film. Imagine my surprise, then, (about a third of the plot through) when a character named Windermere was purchasing a fan for his wife–and I suddenly realized I was watching a irregular modernization of Oscar Wilde’s classic play aptly entitled “Lady Windermere’s Fan.” I felt aesthetic foolish, I must admit–but I don’t entirely blame myself.

Instead of the claustrophobic drawing rooms in 1890’s England, “A Generous Woman” is fashioned in Italy of the 1930’s (an strange choice considering the political climate at the time–which is conveniently never mentioned) . The Windermere’s are now Americans. And what was once Wilde’s comedy of manners has become a rather stilted drama with occasional one-liners that fans of Wilde’s works will seek. I certainly have no spot with re-imagining a classic work, such as this. But “A Agreeable Woman” keeps the storyline of “Lady Windermere’s Fan” while jettisoning the elements that accomplish it an effective social commentary. The intimate settings of the play assign a world where gossip is an considerable allotment of daily life, the improper interactions are all anyone have to enjoy their time. By opening things up to the Italian countryside, this seems to be less relevant. It’s as if the considerable characters are engaged in a different movie from the supporting players who design mockery of them.

“A Suitable Woman” tells the memoir of Mrs. Erlynne (Helen Hunt), a seductress that has made a career of manipulating the egos of wealthy men. After being chased from American society, she settles in Italy where her path crosses with a young aristocrat named Windermere and his bride (Johannson) . Windermere’s relationship with Mrs. Erlynne sets the tongues wagging. It’s best not to pronounce too mighty of the residence for those irregular with the play–but again, the film’s screenplay loses great of Wilde’s language, pace, and intricate comedy. Only the talented and British supporting players, led by the sublime Wilkinson, seem to be trying to absorb Wilde’s spirit.

Still, this is a pretty production. But no amount of lush scenery and attractive costuming can mask the film’s truly fatal flaw. No offense to Helen Hunt, or her fans, but her interpretation of Mrs. Erlynne leaves noteworthy to be desired. With a stilted cadence to her speech and a pinched expression, Hunt never convinces us that she could be the irresistible creation that she needs to be. Johannson is somewhat vacant in her role, as well, but that is better disguised by her character’s naiveté. It is Wilkinson, in particular, that completely saves this production. With considerable needed humor and charm, “A Superior Woman” is inexplicably salvaged by a man! While this isn’t abominable by any stretch, it’s unlikely to send original viewers to gawk out the works of Oscar Wilde–and that’s a valid disappointment. KGHarris, 03/07.

Les Misérables – 1998 film version – formal review

This newest film version of Les Misérables presents this classic myth as the expansive sweeping tale that it is, yet diverges from the modern yarn, leaving remarkable to be desired. Fans of Victor Hugo’s beloved unusual, published in 1862, and of the approved musical, produced in 1985, may be disappointed in this movie’s truncated version of the yarn. However, the film manages to sustain intact the main themes of Hugo’s myth of care for, mercy, and redemption.

As a movie in its beget factual, this film deserves the highest praise. As historical drama it is of the highest quality. The movie portrays Jean Valjean as a good hero, a person whom we can like because of his courage and self-sacrificing commitment to godly principle. The acting is beneficial — Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Hasten star as Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, and both simply become their characters. Uma Thurman gives an exceptional performance as Fantine. The soundtrack for the film is pleasing as well.

However, this movie cannot be evaluated separately from the unique and musical (which follows the modern quite closely and has gained a wide following of devoted fans) . In terms of faithfulness to the recent sage, the film falls short. The first half of the movie follows the current quite well; powerful of the screenplay is taken almost directly from the book, and no distinguished characters or events are removed. Unfortunately, however, the first half of the movie covers less than one third of the myth. In the second half, the movie diverges widely from the unusual. Enthusiasts of the musical and current will be disappointed to peruse that two critical characters from the Paris setting, Enjolras and Eponine — both of whom are approved favorites among fans — are completely eliminated from the film, their roles given to other characters or deleted altogether. The second half of the film is mercilessly truncated and adapted.

The film’s portrayal of Cosette as a rather contaminated young woman who is always ready to pout if she doesn’t derive her plot is inconsistent with the sweet and oblivious Cosette of Hugo’s modern. The character of Javert, the obsessed policeman who hounds Jean Valjean, is also altered — perhaps more subtly — to fabricate him out as the cross villain of the myth, when in the recent and musical he is more complex and less of a villain. The other characters, however, are faithfully portrayed in the film.

Even in the second half, the movie does shine at times. The depiction of Jean Valjean continues to be shining (except for one scene in which he slaps Cosette and then reveals his past to her, both actions in complete inconsistency with his character according to Hugo) . The last fifteen minutes of the film do narrate well the valuable universal theme of Justice versus Mercy. However, the movie curtails the modern account, robbing it of a gracious deal of its poignancy.

Altogether, though, the film manages to support the main themes and characters of the fresh unique. It serves as a suited introduction to the tale. It should inspire viewers to read the fresh book and listen to the musical as well!

This is a beneficial movie. I mean, not badly cast. Lovingly done. The acting is huge. Yeah, you should appreciate it. Assuming you know absolutely nothing about Victor Hugo’s unusual epic. The truth is, if I didn’t know better, I’d say whoever wrote the script never read Hugo’s masterpiece and based it completely on the 1935 version. Approach to contemplate of it, I don’t know better. That’s probably exactly what happened.

I never conception I’d say this, but I am so ecstatic Hugo didn’t have to live to contemplate this movie.

If you’ve read the book, you will loathe this film. TRUST me. The position, especially toward the waste, is mercilessly butchered and rewritten. At some points it becomes utterly unrecognizable. Many of the revisions completely miss or even waste the essence of characters, and some do not even develop sense, the movie ending with Jean Valjean delighted over the death of Javet, whose life he has made an tremendous sacrifice to set aside.

Likewise, Javert would never attack Cosette; he was obsessively professional, not cruel. Nor would raze his life (with minimal explanation, no less) in front of Valjean. Marius would NEVER act like Enjolras (oh, I forgot, there IS no Enjolras) . Neither Marius NOR Enjolras would smile at remarks about making like to Cosette, so I net it hard to gain that some mutant hybrid Marjolras would. Cosette would never contemplate leaving Marius, her soulmate, to quit with Valjean, her adoptive father. And above all, Jean Valjean would NEVER, EVER descend in treasure with Fantine. The mere suggestion of this limits the portrayal of his charity to people he takes a special interest in.

Small variations are to be expected in any film adaptation of a book, but these all completely distort characters. The people who made this movie may have gotten the message (admire, charity, etc.), but they missed the point.

If you’ve never read the book, spy this movie. It is touching and carries a expedient message.

But it is not Les Misérables.

The video quality of Criterion’s DVD version of SPELLBOUND discs spy a bit sharper, more detailed, but grainier than Anchor Bay’s re-pressed version from 2000 (in which the flash-of-red color shot was restored) . The audio quality of Criterion’s 1.0 mono soundtrack is also a slight more detailed and more clear than Anchor Bay’s 2.0 mono track. The Anchor Bay disc also sounds worthy louder, but there are audio distortions in a few places. The soundtrack of the Criterion disc (and many DVDs) was recorded at a great lower volume level, which is usually an worry to sustain as mighty as possible the dynamic range of the source material. The Criterion DVD booklet says the film’s fresh overture and exit music has been included on the disc for the first time. This is simply not suitable, for the re-pressed Anchor Bay disc also has the overture and exit music. The initial pressing of the Anchor Bay disc, in which the red-color shot is erroneously shown in B&W, does not have the overture and exit music, however.

Although SPELLBOUND helped solidify Hitchcock’s station in Hollywood, it isn’t one of his best films. But Marian Keane’s worthy analytical audio commentary on the Criterion disc should heighten your appreciation of the film. Keane juxtaposes the themes in the film against the manner in which Hitchcock made his films and the manner in which we, the viewers, gaze them, and suggests that they are somehow interrated. She points out that many Hitchcock films (including SPELLBOUND) are about people who grasp pleasure in watching and analyzing other people, which is also the very thing that we, the viewers, do when we inspect such films. As in her commentary for the Noted DVD, she injects an extra layer of significance within the film by refering to determined elements in the film as “surrogate authors,” “scriptwriting sessions,” and “director’s assertion of his authorship.” Keane single-mindedly concentrates on the interpretation, deconstruction, and theorization on the subject of Hitchcock, and the result is one of the most noteworthy dissertations ever recorded on DVD. I give 4 stars to the film itself, but 5 to Keane.

I give 5 stars to the supplements on the Criterion disc as well, like I routinely do. There is a improbable, rather detailed photo-essay segment on the making of the Dali sequence. Two film clips of the surrealist film UN CHIEN ANDALOU is included! to display some earlier inspirations for the SPELLBOUND dream sequence. Memos from the filmmakers and production photos expose how the dream sequence was re-shot several times due to logistic difficulties and artistic differences. There are also production photos of the deleted “ballroom” sub-sequence, in which Ingrid Bergman plays a statuesque figure bewildering Gregory Peck.

Other extras include about 150 production and publicity photos, a half-hour audio interview of the film’s composer, a 7-minute radio program on the subject of theramin, a 1-hour radioplay version of SPELLBOUND, “memoir treatments” that demonstrate how the modern unusual was loosely adapted into a filmmable account, and other correspondences from psychoanalysts and Production Code officials who offered advices to the filmmakers. The booklet contains two very pleasurable essays; one is about the making of the film, while the other offers some artistic analyses (some of which echo Keane’s comments) .

SPELLBOUND was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and produced by David O. Selznick in 1945. As the yarn unravels it is essentially a abolish region interwoven around psychiatrists and psychoanalysis. It is actually Alfred Hitchcock’s reach to the yarn and his collaborations with composer Miklos Rozsa and surrealist artist Salvador Dali that highlights this film. Gregory Peck plays John “J.B.” Ballantine who poses as a psychiatrist while in a region of amnesia. Uncovered by Dr. Constance Peterson played by Ingrid Bergman, Ballantine must secure out if he is responsible for the death of the missing psychiatrist that he posed as and simultaneously ogle his maintain identity. Miklos Rozsa’s earn is both romantic yet eerie as Ballantine tries to remember what happened through analysis of his dreams. Alfred Hitchcock hired Salvador Dali to make illustrations and paintings in order to originate a crisp and bright rendering of these dreams. Hitchcock did not want to utilize feeble techniques such as blurred camera shots to recreate the dreams. He wanted them to be as definite and even sharper than the rest of the film. He wanted Dali’s style of using shadows, lines of convergence and the concept of infinite distance incorporated into the dream sequences. In the dream sequence we eye a dim stage highlighted with people at gambling tables with gargantuan mysterious looking eyes peering over them. A man cuts away at the fabric of one scrutinize with a giant scissors revealing another explore. In another allotment of the dream we explore a man standing on a roof tedious a chimney that has sprouted roots. The hooded man holds what looks like a deformed or eccentric wagon wheel in his hand. In the distance there is a formation of rocks and boulders, which discover like they are sprouting into the shape of a man’s head. Another portion of the dream shows a man running down a pitched geometric plane as the shadow of a bird follows him. In the background there are geometric shapes and lines that go off into infinity. All these images must be interpreted into experiences from reality. Dali’s images are unsettling and plan provoking. Eventually, the eccentric wagon wheel turns out to relate the chambers of a revolver pistol and reveals the lawful identity of the murderer. A surrealistic painting brings to the canvas an image from reality but puts it into a context of the unreal. I assume Dali was successful in translating the realistic elements from the area into a vision of incomprehensibility of the conscious human mind. Hitchcock and the scriptwriter Ben Hecht then had their characters translate Dali’s images aid into plausible reality. This is gleaming filmmaking years ahead of its time.

Well, the second season of “Desperate Housewives” has finally near to an slay. Season two for the most share was a heavenly obedient one, though not quite as pleasant as season one. While the writing and acting was calm valid, there were a few things about season two that didn’t work.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Desperate Housewives – The Complete Second Season! Click Here

The marvelous things about the second season of this terrific ABC series were many of the same things that made this show’s first season so good: gigantic acting by its stars. The actress I idea who came off best in season two was Eva Longoria, who plays the stunning and sexy Gabrielle. Of the show’s four leading ladies, Longoria gave by far the funniest performances throughout the season (her catfight scene with that nun midway through the season was uproarious) . Marcia Ghastly gave the show’s most considerable performances as Bree, the housewive who’s an obsessive perfectionist. Felicity Huffman (Lynette) and Teri Hatcher (Susan) were both terrific as usual. And Nicolette Sheridan was luscious as Edie, the Wisteria Lane tramp. Main storylines that played out through season two include: Gaby and Carlos trying to have a baby in every possible way; Lynette going befriend to work; Bree battling not only alcoholism but also her brat son Andrew; Susan breaking up with Mike, then finding a potential romantic interest with a doctor; and Edie finding romance with Susan’s ex-husband Karl.

But there were a few setbacks. The one asset that didn’t really work on the second season of “Desperate Housewives” was the immense mystery storyline intelligent Wisteria Lane’s newest members: the Applewhites (introduced at the raze of season one) . This storyline wasn’t even cessation to matching the greatness of the enormous mystery storyline of season one (the suicide of Mary Alice Young), and it wasted the talents of Alfre Woodard, who portrayed Betty Applewhite. It seemed that the writers couldn’t build up their minds at where to go with this account, and in the process Woodard wasn’t given great to do in the role. That’s a shame, because Woodard is a expansive actress and deserved better here. This storyline was thankfully finished off in the season two finale, and it appears that Woodard will not be abet for season three. One splendid thing came out of this storyline: a surprise twist that I didn’t survey coming.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Desperate Housewives – The Complete Second Season! Click Here

Another thing I didn’t peek coming was the grisly ending to the season finale, which has turned out to be the immense cliffhanger that will lead into season three. It will be consuming to notice what ends up happening when “Desperate Housewives” comes abet on the air for season three.

Critics loved season one; but hated season two. Same thing with the Emmy voters. After receiving 15 Emmy nominations for its freshman season, “Desperate Housewives” only got 7 nods for season two. Plenty of omissions this time: no nomination for Best Comedy Series, and no nominations for its leading ladies (Marcia Substandard was unfairly snubbed) . The only major nomination it got was for Alfre Woodard as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which (in my idea) makes no sense at all. The only reason why Woodard is nominated is because Emmy voters worship her. She is a past winner for some very wonderful work that’s she’s done (the HBO movie Miss Evers’ Boys and a guest appearence in the pilot to NBC’s L.A. Law) and she’s received other nominations for her other various roles. But to receive a nomination for a role in which we saw her not given a whole lot to do objective proves at how boneheaded the Emmy voters can be sometimes (which is quite often) . How Woodard can earn a nomination for a wasted performance and Horrible fails to find nominated for doing the strongest acting on the prove in season two is a mystery that I don’t mediate anyone on Wisteria Lane would be able to figure out.

Don’t think this review by its title! I am a devout Housewives fan and have gotten other friends crooked on it, too. Looking aid at Season 2, by time the finale had ended, we all knew grand more about our current Housewife’s personality. For example, who knew Gabrielle had such a soft inside? Eva Longoria and Marcia Outrageous shone as their characters developed more and I fell even deeper in treasure with Bree, a psychological complex of treasure, disappointment, perfectionism, and unresolved childhood issues. The actresses’ skills were all pushed to the limit and I love their ability to surpass my my expectations always.

On the other hand the storylines were a bit droll at times, mostly due to a musty season mystery: Susan’s attempted marriage to the jubilant guy, and how Xiao-Mei was a hidden slave, not to mention the Applewhite hiatus that we experienced towards the waste of the present, the Applewhites are the season mystery for heaven’s sakes! The Applewhites were also a dinky too isolated from the neighborhood, I mean we know that Betty is secretive but she doesn’t communicate with Gabrielle or Lynette throughout the season! Season 1 was practically bullet-proof, so let’s stare that advance support.

Complaints aside, I did luxuriate in Season 2, it’s the one that got me crooked in the first status, I watched Season 1 on DVD after watching the Season 2 premiere. Don’t be establish off by the storyline goofs, I omitted the luscious parts of Season 2, which outweigh the goofs, so as not to spoil it for you.

The finale seems very promising, so I hope Season 3 continues the huge work but factors in a more riveting mystery. Lift this dwelling, and savor the valid acting (better than Season 1), the wonderful Brenda Strong’s narration, trustworthy production, and in many cases, issues that hit home.

Season 5 features guest stars Bill Maher, Joan Collins, Tim Curry, Lorreta Lynn, Red Buttons, Sara Rue, Morgan Fairchild, Ed Begley Jr, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I agree with the earlier review about the abrupt changes over the years on the display. But they did mention Roseanne’s fathers abuse in the fourth season episode “This Feeble House” Roseanne and Jackie went to the house they grew up in before it was torn down and were discussing the things that went on during childhood. Roseanne pointed to the wall and said to Jackie “Remember what was hanging there? ” Referring to the belt they were hit with. Roseanne also referred to her dad as a lunatic in the Tornado episode from the 1st season when Jackie said he frail to pick up them all in the car during a storm and shuffle it. They changed the character of Dan’s mother also. I assume in the second season Dan’s mother comes to Thanksgiving with her boyfriend and seemed like a perfectly normal woman and in a later season she had mental problems and was achieve in a hospital. Then Debbie Reynolds played her as a psycho. David’s name started as Kevin. They might have cleared that up in a later episode though. And of course the two Beckys. All in all Roseanne was a large note and I am thrilled that they are bringing them out on DVD so quick. I gave only 4 stars because I felt the 2nd 3rd and 4th seasons were the best, although I absolutely fancy the episode on this one where the power is turned off. That has some of the biggest laughs of the entire series. I would situation Roseanne in my top 5 series of all time. Even the lesser episodes are better than most things on TV. If anybody does read this, could you let me know if the Roseanne 1st season DVD is uncut? I have only watched a couple of the episodes and it seems like exactly what is on Slash at Nite. I always cherish getting the scenes that they have cleave out over the years. Thanks for listening.
