You see them all the time: Light trucks, Sport Utility Vehicles, Jeeps, and more, coasting down the highway, sitting atop towering truck suspension lift kits and sporting a set of tires so big that a person could live in them. If you’re the curious type looking to lift up your own rig, a more important question than “How do I get my ride to do that” is “Why should my ride do that?”

There are several reasons why people might customize their vehicles with suspension lift kits, as well as quite a bit to know before you get started. If you’re a seasoned veteran who has conquered the most vicious terrains and knows your vehicle better than your own mother, there probably isn’t much for you to learn here. On the other hand, if you’re just getting started and want to familiarize yourself with the basics, read on.

Why should I lift my ride?

Glad you asked. Equipping vehicles with a suspension lift kits involves much more than buying the sexiest looking truck lift kit and then dropping your ride off at the local mechanic. Actually, chances are good that if that’s all you plan to do, lifting your ride might not be right for you in the first place. Installing truck suspension lift kits requires some hard work, a bit of technical savvy and consistent upkeep and attention to your vehicle’s components.

The first determination you need to make when considering suspension lift kits is what you want to do with it. There are essentially two main purposes for installing truck lift kits: style or function. Although the two are somewhat interrelated, it’s still important to consider which purpose you most wish to pursue, as it will assist you in making the correct modifications to your vehicle.

Style:

Let’s face it: Transforming a vehicle into a style statement has been a popular hobby ever since the advent of tailfins and flame decals. As much as we all might chuckle at a hybrid hatchback sitting on 18″ wheels, or the family sedan with a wing that resembles the Seattle Space Needle more than a spoiler, we also find our own vehicles having fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror, or a bobbling hula dancer statuette on the dash. As far as style is concerned, adding truck lift kits makes more of an impression than anything else you can do to your ride. Heads turn instantly at the sight of a lifted rig with massive tires that appear to be sprouting fangs and an exhaust system that scares stray puppies into hiding.

When it comes to adding suspension lift kits to make a style statement, looking good is the easy part. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook general, everyday performance in the midst of decking out a ride. For this reason, choosing the right suspension lift kit with attention to comfort, reliability, durability, safety, and not to mention price, should be given just as much consideration as those precious inches you want to add.

Performance:

So you’ve made the jump into tuning your rig for the off-road world, and you’re ready to take the plunge to invest in one of many truck lift kits. But before diving headfirst into a custom truck lift kit and gigantic tires, there are a number of issues to address to ensure a correct setup. The first step is to ask yourself what you will be doing the most, whether it’s slow-speed rock crawling, high-speed desert racing, general purpose 4 wheeling, mud racing, or long distance open country treks. From there, you can narrow down what you need to do in order to customize your vehicle to suit your needs.

Whether you’re just starting out, or you’re the experienced professional, tuning your rig for optimum off-road performance is an expansive hobby with numerous factors to be wary of. The possibilities are limitless, which can sometimes make it hard to determine exactly which suspension lift kits are ideal for what you want.

Where do I begin?

As if determining which suspension lift kits to purchase weren’t complicated enough, installing truck lift kits can alter other components in your vehicle, sometimes causing unforeseen issues that could affect performance or be potentially detrimental to the vehicle itself. For example, drive shaft length, steering geometry, brake lines, highway performance and handling, gear ratios, and overall weight are just a few of the factors that could potentially be impacted by adding truck suspension lift kits.

Finding ample resources to determine what products you need can be difficult. Speaking with a mechanic can provide some insight. Reading factory service manuals, off-road magazines, internet message boards, manufacturer’s guides, and a number of other resources can help as well. But by far the most useful way to determine what truck lift kits are right for you and your vehicle is to consult an experienced and knowledgeable person who has a vehicle similar to yours and uses it in the manner similar to what you want to do. Not only can such a person suggest the correct products, but also likely has experience with installation tips and general drivability.

In the meantime, here are some of the basic elements of suspension lift kits for you to keep in mind as you plan your modifications.

What does a Suspension Lift Kit do?

  1. Clearance

For starters, one of the foremost reasons for installing truck suspension lift kits is to raise the height of your ride off the ground to enable steeper ascent or descent off-road, and higher ground clearance. In general, it makes sense that when driving over boulders, slogging through mud, coasting across the desert, or even just making your way through the occasional forest trail, higher clearance facilitates negotiating certain obstacles. This can often be a tricky bit of artistry to manage, as higher clearance also raises your vehicle’s center of gravity, which can reduce handling.

  2. Larger Tire Fitment

The general consensus suggests that larger tires equate to more traction, right? Well, not entirely. While larger tires may provide some improvement to traction in off-road conditions, there are other ways to improve a vehicle’s traction that are far more efficient than simply bulking up the rubber. Aside from the obvious stylistic discretion, the main reasons for adding larger tires are for higher vehicle clearance for improved performance in mud, deep snow, rocks, and deeply rutted trails. Certain tires designed specifically for off-road conditions can improve traction depending on the circumstances, but the added clearance is the most immediate and direct benefit of larger tires.

Factors to Consider with Truck Suspension Lift Kits:

  • Installation: Many manufacturers offer manuals for installing truck lift kits onto certain vehicles; however, some installations are quite intricate, requiring some welding or cutting in order to add some necessary components. In this case, having a trusted mechanic or a few knowledgeable friends is the best resolution.
  • Additional Modifications: Upgrading to truck lift kits with taller tires also means that a number of components may require part upgrades or some tuning to compensate. For instance, a truck’s engine is tuned at specific gear ratios to propel the vehicle. When adding taller tires, the gear ratios must be tweaked accordingly, since the engine has to spin much larger, heavier tires. Again, consult with more experienced individuals for further insight.
  • Highway Performance: Larger, wider tires can sometimes result in instability on roads or a noisy, uncomfortable ride, particularly at high speeds. Also, more aggressive off-road tires tend to wear faster on the highway, and traction might not be as great as you would expect on wet roads. In this sense, larger tires can sometimes be a gamble without any direction from an experienced off-road veteran.
  • Weight: larger tires are heavier, which can put a lot of strain on your suspension, particularly if it’s a stock suspension. Trusted, durable suspension components and lighter aluminum wheels can sometimes help to reduce the strain.
  • Handling: Adding truck suspension lift kits will undoubtedly raise the vehicle’s center of gravity, resulting in less stable turns. This is a common issue when installing truck lift kits, but is mostly just a matter of becoming accustomed to a vehicle’s change in performance.
  • Legality: Some suspension lift kits are such a serious change in your suspension system that it may not be legal. Check the suspension regulations within your country, state, or province to be sure.
  • A Few Useful Accessories: Before installing a lift kit, it’s a good idea to first examine if any components will be affected by your vehicle’s new height. Here are a few useful accessories that may need to be upgraded:
    • Brake Upgrades: Stock brakes can’t always accommodate larger tires, or will wear easily due to the added strain.
    • Drivetrain and Differential: Axles, gears, differential covers, lockers and more ensure that your drivetrain is up to par with your suspension.
    • Replacement Parts: Longer Control Arms and Track Bars to compensate for the additional height of your rig.
    • Shocks: For those taller lifts, longer shocks will ensure the smoothest performance both on and off road.
    • Other Parts: Steering linkage, slip yoke, drive shaft length, u-joint angle, and brake lines are all worthy of consideration before installing suspension lift kits.

Installing Suspension Lift Kits:

When it comes time to install a lift kit, there are two ways possible ways to go about it: install it yourself, or have a professional do the job. Naturally, each has its advantages and disadvantages, and when it comes to your rig, attention to detail is crucial. A general rule to follow is that even if you know you want a large lift, it’s best to start with a small lift and work your way up. This allows you to work out any kinks and hindrances along the way to make sure your kit works right.

  1. Do-It-Yourself

Even if you’re not technically inclined, taking the time to learn the inner mechanics of your vehicle is a valuable experience that can save you time and money. An intimate knowledge of your rig can also allow you to make your own modifications to your vehicle if the need arises. There are numerous resources available that can usually guide you through the majority of the process; however, one must keep in mind that it’s a lot to take in, and tweaking the intricate components of your vehicle is no small matter. It’s always a good idea to have a second set of hands or an experienced individual assisting you.

On the downside, even with the increasing availability of bolt-on kits, installing suspension lift kits is no easy task, particularly if you’re a beginner. Additionally, certain instructions or resources can sometimes be misleading or based upon the personal preferences of individual gearheads. Often times, after installing a lift kit you’ll find yourself spending hours tweaking the other components of your vehicle to get them back to spec. That’s a whole lot to take on, particularly if you’re inexperienced.

  2. Mechanic

A licensed professional installing your lift kit is typically the best way to ensure that suspension lift kits are installed correctly, so long as you’re willing to pay the labor charges. A professional can perfectly tune your vehicle to your liking and see to it that all components are working as they should, all within a fraction of the time it would take even the most experienced gearheads to install it themselves.

On the other hand, as is the case with regard to any mechanic, it might be difficult to find one you can trust to install the kit properly while not overcharging you for any unnecessary parts. Also, if you’re not a gearhead, anytime there’s a functional deficiency or your vehicle needs minor tweaking, you have no choice but to return to the mechanic for service.

Suspension Lift Sizes:

Small: A small lift consists of 1.5 or fewer inches, and will grant you a little more clearance and room to run slightly larger tires. The most common way to gain a small lift is by using coil spacers in front and long shackles in the rear.

  • Advantages/Disadvantages: Small lifts are inexpensive and easy to install with very few complications.

Medium: A medium lift is roughly 2″ of lift, and is a good choice for those looking for the best tire clearance, but aren’t planning on doing any off-roading. Common medium-sized lifts use spacer and add-a-leaf lifts, and sometimes come with new shocks.

  • Advantages/Disadvantages: You’ll notice changes in handling and performance: some good, some bad. You’ll also need strong rear springs, and if you plan to use an add-a-leaf kit, later modification for more lift may be difficult, since add-a-leafs are designed to lift stock springs.

Large: The largest lifts consist of 3 to 4″ or more for an aggressive look and the best off-road performance. A common large lift setup consists of new front coils and add-a-leafs in the rear, plus some combination of new front coils and new rear springs. These kits often include a matching set of shocks.

  • Advantages/Disadvantages: Large lifts are obviously the most expensive, and more complications are expected than with smaller lifts. On-road performance will also be affected, sometimes dramatically. But a large lift will transform your rig into an intimidating off-road machine that will stand out among a crowd.

Types of Suspension Lift Kits:

Spring Over Axle (SPOA):

SPOA suspension lift kits are most popular among serious rock crawlers looking for the utmost articulation (up and down wheel travel). These truck lift kits keep the tires on the ground for maximum traction, while correctly lifted springs lifts everything out of harm’s way, including the springs.

Shackle Reverse (S/R) Suspension Lift Kits:

S/R truck lift kits are designed to provide a smooth ride upon mild terrain such as forest roads, desert driving, and scenic trails; however, high-speed driving on highways is not recommended.

Coil Suspension Lift Kits:

The choice of many of the world’s best-riding 4 wheel drive vehicles, Coil Suspension Lift Kits offer unrivaled ride quality and cheaper springs, but installation sometimes requires some welding. The end result, however, is a suspension lift kit that provides excellent articulation on the trail, and a comfortable ride you have to feel to believe.

Lifted Spring Suspension Lift Kits:

The most commonly used type of truck lift kits in the world, Lifted Spring systems are easier to install, and an excellent choice for first-time lifters in the off-road world. These truck lift kits allow you to run larger tires for additional clearance, while producing control on the highway.

Shackle Suspension Lift Kits:

As probably the most affordable way to add inches to your rig, Shackle Suspension Lift Kits are primarily for the truck enthusiast looking to add larger tires, yet are not intending to do much hardcore off-roading. Moderation is recommended with these truck lift kits, as Shackle systems are known to affect steering and sway control.

How to Use Color Coil Binding Hand Crimpers

June 12th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I remember the first time that I tried coil binding and attempted to use a pair of coil crimping pliers. Every time I tried to crimp the spiral binding it simply cut the coil shorter. Nobody had taken the time to show me how to use the coil crimpers properly. If they had explained it to me, I could have saved a lot of time and frustration. Hopefully I can save you some time and frustration by giving you some simple hints on crimping spiral coil. Here are a few things to remember:

  1. Spiral Coil hand crimpers have a red dot on one side of them. The first thing to remember when using your coil binding crimping pliers is that the red dot always needs to face the ceiling. As long as the red dot on your pliers faces the ceiling and not the floor you will be able to crimp your coil instead of simply cutting the coil binding element shorter.
  2. Hold your book parallel to the ground with the spine of the book facing towards you. By holding the book in this position it will make it easier to get a good crimp on your book.
  3. Start by crimping the right side of your book. Simply use the coil crimpers to crimp the coil binding as close as possible to the edge of your book. Give the crimpers an extra squeeze to ensure that the crimpers bend the end of the coil binding over to prevent the coil binding from spinning off the book.
  4. To finish the process, flip the book over and repeat the process. Flipping the book over will help ensure that the small piece of coil binding that is bent over will be pointed in and not out.

These are a few hints for crimping your coil bound books. Obviously, these instructions assume that you have a pair of specially designed coil crimping pliers. It is possible to finish documents with a standard pair of needle nosed pliers. However, standard pliers do not cut and crimp in one action meaning that you will have to manually cut the coil to the correct length and then carefully bend the end of the coil over. This can be very time consuming and since coil crimpers are relatively inexpensive they tend to be extremely worthwhile.

Hopefully these tips will make the coil binding process easier for you next time you use your spiral binding machine.

If you are looking for a high quality pair of Spiral Coil Crimping Pliers you should really check out MyBinding.com. They have a great price on these pliers, and they offer Free Shipping on all orders over $75. Plus, they carry a huge selections of Spiral Coil Binding Machines from manufactures such as Akiles, Tamerica, GBC, Renz, Rhin-O-Tuff and DFG. Check them out today!

Ice Melt Products – What The Buyer Needs To Know

June 11th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The sale of ice melt products continues to be big business each winter and with these sales come many questions. In this article, the top 20 ice melt buyer questions are answered by a small business that sells ice melt over the Internet.

1) Why should I use ice melt? ANS: Safety is the primary reason. Other reasons include damage prevention from heavy ice buildup and just plain convenience to keep traffic areas clean.

2) Why does ice melt contain chemicals other than salt? ANS: The added chemicals keep the ice melt from getting hard and adjust the minimum temperature at which the product works effectively.

3) Which ice melt product should I use? ANS: The customer is the best person to make that decision based on their unique needs. Cost, environmental friendliness, weather pattern and area where the ice melt is to be applied all play a role in the decision.

4) What are my ice melt choices? ANS: You have two choices; Urea or Salt (contains chloride). Urea is used in lawn fertilizers, but as an ice melt it is sold in much higher concentrations so do not buy the comment that it “will not burn your lawn.” Salt can be Sodium Chloride (rock salt is 95 98.5% pure), Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride and/or Calcium Chloride. The different ice melt brand names often mix these salts in patented blends along with the added chemicals.

5) What is the least expensive ice melt? ANS: Rock Salt is least expensive but many companies offer various “economical blends” that will work well on your driveway and will be friendlier to the environment.

6) Why is the ice melt minimum effective temperature (MET) important? ANS: If you live in a climate where sub zero temperatures rarely occur, you might be wasting money buying an ice melt that works down to -25 degrees F.

7) What are the ice melts “METs”? ANS: Potassium Chloride +25F, Urea +20F, Rock Salt +10F, Magnesium Chloride -22F and Calcium Chloride at -25F. However, with the additional chemicals many manufactures can vary these temperatures somewhat for their patented blends.

8) Is a fast acting ice melt product always better? ANS: No. In areas where slips and falls is a greater concern, a fast acting product may be your best choice. These products often require a greater frequency of application, which can increase cost and risk of damage.

9) Which ice melt products are safe? ANS: All products on the market are generally safe when used per instructions. Both urea and salt will burn a lawn and may irritate the bottom of your pet’s paws. You should store the ice melt is a sealed area out of reach from pet’s and children.

10) Do ice melts contain any form of poison? ANS: No. However, if ingested by a person or animal it is recommended that you contact your physician (or veterinarian).

11) Which ice melt products are better for the environment? ANS: Blends with less Chloride are better for the environment but will be more expensive, especially if you want them to work at the sub zero temperatures.

12) What other concerns for safety and property damage should I be aware when using ice melt? ANS: Exceeding the recommended usage and/or heavy traffic which moves the ice melt to areas not intended can damage concrete, carpet, floors, wood decks in addition to vegetation.

13) What can I do to protect vegetation from ice melt applications? ANS: Follow package instructions and use the environmentally friendly products (more expensive) where the vegetation is a concern.

14) What can I do to protect carpets/wood floors from ice melt traffic? ANS: Vacuum and/or wipe up with a damp sponge any residue tracked on to your carpet/wood floor. Use rubberized mats in areas of high traffic during bad weather.

15) What can I do to protect my wood deck? ANS: Ice melt salts can penetrate the wood pores and cause early degradation as it re crystallizes. Therefore, it is not the best product for a wood deck. Sand and/or matting are better solutions. Wood sealers do offer some protection.

16) What can I do to protect my concrete surfaces from ice melt damage? ANS: Ice melt usage will increase the number of freeze thaw cycles, which increase the risk of concrete scaling on the surface. Never use ice melt on concrete less than one year old. Clean off slush as soon as possible. Use of concrete sealers will help also.

17) Can I use ice melt on my roof? ANS: Although ice melt is one option for roofs it is often not the best option. Ice built up on roofs is caused by excess heat loss. Correcting the heat loss or installing heating elements to prevent the ice buildup is a better preventative measure. Consult a professional roofer for guidance when removing ice from a roof.

18) Can I use ice melt on my brick surface? ANS: Ice melt products are not recommended on these surfaces.

19) Can I use left over ice melt for other purposes such as a water softener? ANS: This is not recommended. Ice melt will keep for the next year usage, it is less suitable for other purposes and it will require more clean up of the brine tank in softeners.

20) How can I best make my ice melt purchase? ANS: Individuals needing less than 100 bags (50 lbs each) per year should consider their local hardware store or shopping market. When the usage is greater, consider using the Internet to research the available ice melt products based on your needs.

This article was written by Dale Leanhardt, Vice President, Donson Supply, Inc.* to help answer the many questions a consumer may have regarding the various ice melt products for sale. Donson Supply provides ice melt for sale over the Internet.

Discovering the spot on plans to craft a shed can take a lot of your efforts. With the latest downturn of the economy, many professionals will be charging lots of money to construct a shed. If you comprehend where to search on-line, then you can save money and time by learning how to formulate a shed by yourself. Today is the perfect time for everyone to compose a shed, whether they are beginners or professionals.

Sheds might being used towards other reasons, preferably than a storehouse. A wooden shed could be transformed into a playhouse for family, or a writing area for an aspirant author. Wood is the proper testimonial for constructing your shed due to it’s instinctual ability to fuse in with your backyard other than metal or plastic. Different from metal and plastic, turning wood will still conserve it’s contours and hues. In order to begin making a wooden shed, you will need materials such as glue, particle boards, and saw dust. Sustainment of the wood is vital for it will de-laminate. Without annual sustainment wood dries out, cracks, and can burn. If you require extra materials other than wood, avoid aluminum as it’s slender gauge can dent in no time.

The popularity of wood sheds has increased over the years. These function good if you already possess a fine small wood cabin or even if you need a shed that goes with the type of your backyard. Wooden shed plans can be particoloured to equal the colors and pattern of your home, which ends up making the shed appear more like a guest house or add on to your house. Student Safety Tips

June 7th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Getting an education theses days is tuff enough. Between paying tuition, bills, school supplies and hours of studying, students have to watch out for their safety as well! Students can’t count on campus security as they never seem to be around when needed, they just can’t be expected to watch over so many students and guarantee everyone’s safety.

If you live on campus, be careful who you let in your dorm. Be very weary of strangers or people you just met. Many can seem very nice and sweet but yet have alternative motives. Also be very careful of who follows you into the building. If you are walking alone many will take this chance to follow you into your dorm, so be very aware of your surroundings. Lock your bedroom door even if you are only going into your hallway.

Did you know about half of all burglaries happen because a door or windows are left open? If you’re in a private home or apartment make sure all the windows are locked down and the front door is always locked. It doesn’t matter if you’re only going to be out a few minutes out or close by. Always lock up! You never know who might be watching!

Muggers, burglars and rapists are always looking for an easy target. You don’t want to be one of them, always try to be in groups at night. If you can’t be with friends going home, you’re probably better off getting a taxi or staying over a friend’s home.

When using ATM machines try to be in a group of friends or trusted people. If you can, any time you need to use ATMS try to get your cash early on. The early the better, less chance of getting cornered and robbed in the dark of night. So it’s best to use ATMS in groups and during the day if possible. Put your debit card and cash away quickly and always be aware of who’s around you and your surroundings. Needles to say never give anybody your pin number or write it down where someone can take it.

Everyone is more vulnerable to crime or being abused in some sort or manner, when they’ve been drinking. If you’re planning a big night out partying, arrange beforehand a way to get home safely, with friends, or in a taxi. Be careful of whom you accept drinks from, men and women can have their drinks spiked for different reasons. Keep an eye on your drink as much as possible with strangers. I am not saying you have to be paranoid or anything like that; just use common sense and all should be well. For more safety info or self defense products visit [http://www.SafetyRus.com]

A Guide to Lorry Spotting

June 5th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Try starting a conversation with most people (aside from the haulage companies) about trucks, and they’ll be asleep before you even get to discuss the merits of a mid-lift axle. But it seems that there is a new guard emerging – a breed so dedicated and eagle-eyed, that they are turning the talent of high speed number plate reading into an art form. Well ok, there’s a little bit more to it than that. But what it amounts to is being in the right place at the right time, and being quick enough to be able to recognise or decipher the truck make and model, the registration plate and the haulage companies’ identification. This lot are quick-witted, they are patient and they are serious.

So who are these lorry spotters? Are they bookish statisticians on their holidays from Cambridge? Or are they frustrated accountants hanging around service stations in their macs with a secret penchant to be truckies? Well no, according to the haulage companies’ they’re just normal people who happen to like trucks – and if numbers quoted by the website lorryspotters.co.uk are anything to go by, the hobby is taking the UK by storm.

Hovering off a bridge over a busy motorway as half the world’s traffic sprays you with muddy road water; or sitting on the side of the M1 as the other half of the world’s traffic hurls empty coke cans at you isn’t everyone idea of fun. But for the lorry spotter it’s a pretty good day out.

Dictaphone in hand, pencil at the ready, these enthusiastic hunter-gatherers slowly but surely collate the information they need – make, model number, registration and the holy grail – the haulage companies’ identification. In years to come “spotting the spotter” could become a hobby in its own right as once you start looking out for the lorry spotters, it becomes a fascinating skill to spy them at work from their preferred hiding spots. (Pun intended.)

The beauty of lorry spotting over, say train spotting is that it is a movable feast. Not restricted by the constraints of the train lines, you can travel freely to carry out your research. There are of course some particularly popular spotting sites, usually involving a motorway. Groups of spotters sometimes meet up at the intersection of the M5 and the M6 because of sheer volume of traffic. Haulage companies’ have stories of dedicated spotters who make round trips of up to 18 hours just to get another notch on their clip board!

Lorryspotting.co.uk has over 4000 users who each pay 25 pounds a year to join. The site has a database of over 13,000 lorries from nearly 100 haulage companies. The idea is to log on and record all the data from the lorries you have spotted, and join the league table vying against other members for the most sightings.

Of course, it’s not all about competition and impressing your favourite haulage companies, and many lorry spotters do it for their own satisfaction. The web is awash with sites where you can download photos of trucks and lorries; blogs and forums devoted to lorry spotting; and software designed to help you collate your spotting data.

But the last mention would have to go to Alf Cooper – a well-known lorry spotter. Travelling up to 40,000 miles a year to pursue his hobby, the 78 year-old died on the job one day. But his dedication paid off and two months after his death he was still at number two on the league table.

Adding Utility and Style to Your Truck With Running Boards and Side Steps

June 2nd, 2010

It’s hard to jump down from the cab of your truck without feeling like a little girl. Modern trucks are manufactured higher and higher off the ground and, without a step up, just getting in and out of the cab can be a gymnastic feat. That’s why truck running boards are a must-have accessory.

From ice and snow to grime and mud, the surface you step onto as you climb in and out of your truck can be unpredictable. And, if that first step is a big one, the risk-factor increases exponentially. For added safety, most running boards include non-skid treads that channel water away from the stepping area to prevent slipping while climbing in and out of the cab. Because if you land wrong, you’ll twist an ankle. And, if the pavement is slippery, you can twist a whole lot more!

Especially handy for snow and icy conditions, a running board can withstand harsh weather and make a nice addition to the comfort and safety of your ride.

Also known as side steps, truck running boards are available with or without lights and constructed of a wide variety of materials, including fiberglass, heavy-duty aluminum, ABS and stainless steel, resisting rust, corrosion and oxidation. They support weights of up to 500 lbs (insert your own mother-in-law joke here) and provide the durability required for frequent use.

Today’s truck side steps are computer designed to ensure a perfectly tailored fit to your make, model and year. Plus, they’re easily customized to match your existing bodyline, making them an attractive upgrade to your exterior and giving your resale value a little added boost in the process.

In addition to a trimmed-out, finished look, running boards provide a number of features for safety and convenience. First and foremost, they protect you from falls, slips and twisted ankles, also preventing strain on your legs and lower back. And, if you’ve ever had to hoist luggage up into an elevated cab, you know a little back protection goes a long way.

There are a number of things you should consult a professional for: medical advice, psychiatric care and the REALLY important stuff like fantasy football picks. But luckily, installing a set of running boards is something you can do on your own. They come with custom mounting hardware and usually install without drilling onto the pre-existing holes in your frame. Sure, your dealer can sell you the same thing…for a huge markup. But, why pay a fortune for something you can easily do yourself in considerably less time and for a fraction of the cost?

With the simplicity and safety provided by truck running boards, you’re covered!

Modern trucks are manufactured higher and higher off the ground, making running boards a must-have accessory. Truck steps or side steps provide a combination of style and safety, making them a smart and affordable upgrade to the exterior of your truck.
