Have Faith in God

Jun 14th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Reading through the Bible from the very beginning, there is one consistent theme, God’s great love and compassion towards us. He is unchangeable, and in this we can have great confidence. It seems there is no greater motivation for faith than knowing this, God is absolutely for us. He wants us to succeed. It makes it easier to have confidence in fulfilling our purpose and destiny here on the Earth when we know that He has called us to succeed.

He loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die in our place giving us freely His life for our death. He did this knowing full well the horrible cost to Himself. Thank you Lord! He loves us more than we can comprehend and has given us through this Covenant incredible benefits. Even in the Old Covenant He admonished us not to forget His benefits.

Psalms 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3. Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4. Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5. Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Have we forgotten or have we just never believed in the first place. Regardless, in this day and age like no other, the body of Christ is being shaken. It’s easy in a World full of chaos to get sidetracked and wander from the path God has placed us on. The World seems to be in a meltdown right now and all that is going on can seem overwhelming to us. In the midst of this there is a choice we each have to make. We have to decide if God’s love toward us is real. Mans definition of love is often times just lip service, but God’s love is always manifested through action.

My question would be, how can we know God loves us if we aren’t seeing the benefit of it in our lives. First of all the action has already taken place. Jesus finished the work He was sent to do. Regardless of where we’ve come from it takes faith to please God. There is absolutely no way around this. If we’ve never been taught His promises we can not have faith to walk in them, for faith always comes from knowing God’s will. If we don’t know His promises, we can not have a foundation for which to believe. We have to know the promises of God if we are going to walk in them by faith don’t we? Jesus said this very thing in John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Knowing God is for us a is a great part of being confident that He will manifest His blessing toward us. Knowing Him is knowing the truth for that is what He is. So many think of God as the enemy instead of as their salvation, and have a tendency to run from Him instead of too Him. He’s the One with the answers, He’s the One Who is an ever present help in a time of need, and He’s the One who has freely given us all things.

Many have been taught how He puts us through every evil thing in order to purify us. I’m here to say this, only the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse us and purify us. There’s no use trying to earn it on our own, for it can not be done. I understand there is a process to walk in this sanctification, but the work has already been done. Our work is to have faith in Him. Righteousness will manifest itself in and through us as we believe Him.

Romans 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something of which to boast, but not before God. 3. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness”. 4. Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. 5.But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

You may be saying I’ve never really seen God’s goodness manifest toward me. If that is your case, then know that first of all you have to look to Him.

Hebrews 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,

If you are looking at all the bad things that are going on in your life then you are looking at the wrong things. You have to turn from the things you are looking at and start looking to the right things. Start by praising Him. Give Him something to work with. Faith is always grateful, faith always praises God. You can’t be a grumbler and be in faith at the same time. God can’t work on your behalf if you are grumbling and complaining all the time. Check yourself. Make the decision to be thankful even if circumstances seem to say you are failing, and you don’t feel like you are ever going to succeed. You certainly won’t if you won’t look to the One who always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus. You are not praising Him for all the bad stuff that is going on, you are praising Him for His protection, His deliverance, and His absolute faithfulness. He has never failed and He never will. If we want to walk in this victory then we have to walk with Him.

Faith is what pleases Him and praise is a catalyst that activates faith, you can see this over and over through out the Word of God. This is not a formula but a way of life. Learn to trust Him and see His absolute faithfulness.

God inhabits the praises of His people. (Psalms 22:3.) Another way we could say this is God manifests Himself in the praises of His people. He is an active living God and wants to show Himself strong on our behalf.

Psalms 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

David had a revelation of God’s great love for him. He was absolutely grounded in it. He wasn’t afraid to turn to Him regardless of what was going on. He messed up many times yet in the midst of the messes, David would time after time turn back to Him and rest in His great love. No wonder God said He was a man after His own heart. Sometimes our actions have negative consequences, yet even in this we can and should turn to the One who has all the answers and will show us the way out. I’ve learned this in my own life, when I look to Him I will receive the answers I need to get out of any mess. It is almost never the way you would have chosen to get out, yet it is the way to safety that only He can give.

He’s the One who can restore and show us the path to victory. I know He’s done it for me and He will surely do it for you. Learn to trust Him totally and completely. Say this with me, God is for me who can be against me? As this mindset grows in you, you will begin to climb to higher heights than you thought possible. Let Him manifest His great love to you and see the deliverance of the Lord.

Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

Our faith should be anchored in His great love towards us. So many Christians have faith in their faith alone, as opposed to the One who is the author and finisher of our faith. The more you know Him the more you love Him. The more you love Him the more you trust Him. The more you trust Him the deeper your faith grows. It’s all tied together. It becomes easier as you walk in this complete trust and confidence knowing He’s for us and not against us. This is something that can be developed, we all have to grow in this. Don’t be afraid of messing up as that only leads to the very things you’re afraid of. You can be confident that even if you do mess up He will restore you and show you how to get back on track. This certainly takes a lot of the pressure off. His Word tells us that perfect love cast out all fear.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

As we trust Him and walk in perfect love we ourselves become perfected and won’t be afraid of failure. I don’t know about you, but this sounds like good news to me. My faith is not in my ability but in Him and Him alone. Do we have faith in our ability to have faith? We can make faith into a formula if we do this. Our faith is not in something but in Someone. Someone the Word declares can not fail. We can take great joy in the fact that He will never fail us as well. After all He is the One who will do what He said He would do.

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? God can not lie and He absolutely cannot fail. This reality when received is life changing. We can rest in this. We should be confident but our confidence should be totally in Him. A humble spirit will keep you from failing. James said God gives more grace to the humble. (Ja. 4:) true humility is not self effacement but putting our complete trust in Him. This allows Him to give you more grace than you already had, and we need all we can get. Grace is given to fulfill His will. This happens when we turn to Him, and put our trust totally in Him. Our faith will not be in our own ability or anointing, our faith will be in Him, the One who anoints us. See the difference?

Mark 11:22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.

This may seem like an obvious point but so many Christians have their faith in everything but God. Sometimes it is in their church or in other ministers or ministries. Men can fail but God never will. If your faith is in a man or ministry and they fail where does that leave you? We should all be praying for those ministers who have failed in one way or another. We are many times tied to their success. We are all in this together. Their success and failure are many times our success and failures. We need each other. Even so we have to place our faith in God and God alone. We have to be confident but our confidence has to be in the unshakable truth of God and His Word, not in man and not in our own ability. We have no abilities outside of what He has given us anyway.

Jesus continued on to say… 23. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, `Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says. 24. “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

We should have faith, or as Jesus said believe our words. We have to believe what we say will come to pass, yet He first said we were to have faith in God. He didn’t get the order of things mixed up, yet we sometimes do. Is our faith in God or in the words we say? If our faith is in God and the unshakable truth of His Word then we can also have complete confidence that our own words will come to pass. We can do this because our words and our faith are both based In Him and the unchangeable truth of His Word. Amen

Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Do you want to be a joint heir with Christ? If so, I urge you to earnestly pray the following prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Your word says, “…and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.” (Jn.6:37),

So I know You won’t cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Ro. 10:13).

I am calling on Your name, So I know You have saved me now, You also said, “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.” (Ro.10:9,10).

I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. And I confess Him now as my Lord, Because Your Word says, “… with the heart one believes to righteousness…” and I do believe with my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:21),

And I am saved! Thank You, Lord! I can now truthfully say, I see myself as a born again child of God!

Glory to God!!!! Amen.

I was raised Catholic, and was born again at the age of 17. I received God’s call into ministry at the age of 19 and began to prepare for ministry. I graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1979. The Lord has called me to teach. My desire is to help all that are seeking the truth to come into a deeper understanding of what God has done for us through Christ Jesus. Olive Branch Ministries is an outgrowth of that desire. The Music of the 60’s

Jun 14th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The 1960s decade refers to the years from the beginning of 1960 to the end of 1969. However, the term also refers to an era more often called The Sixties, which denotes the complexity of inter-related cultural and political trends in the west, particularly United States, Britain, France, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Spain, Italy, and West Germany. Nevertheless, political turmoil was not limited to these countries, but also included nations like for example Japan and Mexico.

“The Sixties” as they are known in popular culture in the United States, is a term often used nostalgically to describe the counter-culture and social revolution; and pejoratively to describe the era as one of irresponsible excess and flamboyance.  Also the decade has been labeled the Swinging Sixties because of the libertine attitudes that emerged during this decade. Experimental drug use became tightly associated with the counter-culture of the era, as pointed out by Jefferson Airplane co-founder Paul Kantner: “If you can remember anything about the sixties, you weren’t really there.”

There is no doubt the 1960s have become synonymous with all the new, exciting, radical and subversive events and trends of the period, which continued to develop in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and beyond. Also in Africa the period was an important one as considerable political change was brought about. Altogether 32 countries gained independence from their European colonial rulers during this period.

By some commentators it has been pointed out that this era was a classical Jungian nightmare cycle since a rigid culture, unable to contain the demands for greater individual freedom, broke free of the social constraints of the previous age through extreme deviation from the norm. A vivid example is the rise, success, fall/nightmare and explosion in the London scene of the 1960s. However, as pointed out, this does not alone explain the mass nature of the phenomenon.

During this period in time rock music became the most popular way of defining the new hippie aesthetic, and the style that arose with the stark, swirling colors and hallucinogenic imagery was coined with the term psychedelic. Among others Bob Dylan demonstrated that expressive songs with surrealist imagery could be merged into popular music. Dylan though was one of few artists that did not jump on the psychedelic bandwagon. However, his efforts at the time inspired countless bands that did.

The first psychedelic bands came from San Francisco, and some of these were the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company. Nevertheless, it did not take long before the psychedelic aesthetic spread musically to other places such as New York, where band like The Fugs and the Velvet Underground, Sly and the Family Stone and the Chambers Brothers were inspired and in England bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, among others, began producing the same kind of music.

During this period music entered and era of  “all hits”, as an abundant number of artists released recordings beginning in the 1950s, as 45-rpm singles, and the radio stations most of the time only played the most popular of the large number of records being made.  Also, bands most of the time only recorded the best of their songs to have a better shot at getting radio play. Among the best examples of American listeners expanding from the folksinger, doo-wop and saxophone sounds of the 1950s and evolving to include psychedelic music is the developments of the Motown Sound, “folk rock” and the British Invasion of bands from the U.K.

There is no doubt that the rise of the counterculture, particularly among the youth created a huge market for rock, soul, pop, reggae and blues music produced by drug-culture influenced bands like the The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Deep Purple, The Who, Sly and the Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix Experience also was helping to create folk rock.

The sixties are today celebrated by some of the people, who remember the freedom and good times they had during this time in history, but the period is also widely celebrated by younger people all over the world, who have made the period an important part of their life by adopting the aesthetics, buying the records, wearing the clothes and approaching life with the open and free attitude which characterized this period.

Applying the Universal Law of Polarity Or Opposites

Jun 13th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Everything has an opposite. We know that. Hot and cold. Male and female. Up and down. In and out. The truth is that we couldn’t have one without the other. We readily accept it as fact. The Law of Polarity teaches us that everything has an opposite that is equal. Let’s explore the Law of Polarity and why conscious awareness of it is important to our happiness and well being.

If this law works in all things, it would mean than when something goes wrong, we can expect something to come along that is equally right. Right? Yes. It doesn’t always look like it in the moment because we are too close to the situation. However, in retrospect it becomes obvious. What about the fact that even though I cried buckets of tears when my boyfriend joined the Air Force when I was a young teenager, I ended up with the marvelous man to whom I have been married for fifty years.

We may prefer to think of some things as the exception to the rule when a natural disaster such as the tsunami which took many lives and destroyed a vast area of shoreline occur. It gave the world an opportunity to rally forces and rebuild those areas and offer assistance that would never have otherwise occurred. Surely hearts were softened and the survivors feel differently about their place in the world.

My husband’s father died when he was a little boy of seven. “Don’t let my daddy be dead.” he cried on the way into town to learn that indeed he had died in the local mine disaster. What could be worse than that for a little boy? His mother had to move them to town where she could find work doing menial labor to put food on the table. He was encouraged to go to college and make something of himself. He graduated and became a Certified Public Accountant and married me. We are the parents of ten children and 57 grandchildren.

That would have never happened if his father hadn’t died. My husband would have stayed on the farm or joined the Navy like his brothers did. I lived over three hundred miles from his hometown and we would never have met in Yellowstone Park where his mother sent him to work as a teenager and where I went after graduating from high school. I am certainly not grateful that he was raised without the companionship and example of his father but I am very grateful we met in Yellowstone Park and got married. We don’t get to judge the law, we just get the results of it.

Napoleon Hill, author of Think And Grow Rich, said “Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.”

The value of learning about the universal laws and then applying them consciously in our lives is that we get the benefit of that knowledge and awareness. We enter the realm of thoughtful participation instead of being victim of circumstances. We can learn to look for the silver lining and respond instead of reacting in any situation. Even when a woman has PMS, she is wise to remember the rest of the month will be better.

On the other hand, does the Law of Polarity mean that because there has been a good day or lovely event that we need to wait for the other shoe to drop. After all, what goes up must come down. Living the laws consciously makes us more aware and accountable for our circumstances. We learned from the Law of Relativity that it is our thinking that makes it so. It is easy at times to make things worse than they are by our thinking. What we focus on increases. When we train our mind to look for the best in any situation we can get really excited when things go wrong knowing there must be something really terrific just around the corner. That is the joy of the Law of Polarity.

Home Improvement Ideas Gone Awry

Jun 12th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

For every great home improvement idea there are several bad ones, lurking in the corners next to vinyl siding and Dutch doors. But, of course, bad home improvement is not an objective term: one man’s bad home improvement idea is another man’s great home improvement idea. Still, there are some ideas that most people will agree should never see the light of day, and definitely never be let inside the house.

Too Much of Anything: Floral patterns, pirate themes, farm scenery. Too much of anything – regardless of what it entails – is just flat out too much. If your house is decorated in floral pattern from attic to basement, it’s time to uproot some of your ornamentation. If your house is saturated with pirate themes, it’s fair to say you’ve gone overboard. If your house is adorned with nothing but farm scenery, you might consider plowing a new path. Instead of decorating your entire house in one theme, try limiting your theme to one room, and letting the rest of the house have a little variety.

Painting with Outrageous Colors: Maybe you’re young and in love with self expression, maybe you’re older and looking for something to set you apart. Whatever you are, painting with outrageous colors is a way to paint yourself remorseful. It may seem like a great idea to paint the inside of your house neon orange and the outside a not-at-all-subtle hot pink, but in the long run you will likely regret this. You may be forced by a covenant controlled community to repaint, or forced to repaint by your realtor when you attempt to sell. You may even be forced to repaint by your inner being, an inner being tired of feeling constantly trapped inside a Grateful Dead song.

Going for a Futuristic Look: Maybe you have a crazy looking chair sitting in your living room or perhaps you’ve trimmed the evergreen in your front yard to resemble something from 2060, whatever you’ve done to make your home look futuristic, stop right now and live in the present. For whichever reason, as there seems to be a lot of reasons to choose from, the “futuristic look” was one that never really took off. Maybe this is partly because it looks kind of silly or partly due to the fact that it’s hard to decorate for 2060 while living in 2007, but the main reason has to be that our conception of the “future” seems to be entirely off base. If we were to go mainly by our conceptions, by 2000 we would have all bought flying cars and taken family vacations to the moon.

Putting in a Pool (when you won’t use it): Putting in a pool isn’t always a bad idea: if you will actually use one then there is no reason not to have one. However, for many people the concept of a pool is more appealing than the pool itself. Pools are a lot of work: they require maintenance and they kill the lawn. For this reason, having a pool and not using it is futile. If you will only use a pool on occasion, don’t install one: just get a pass to the local recreation center. And, if you live in an area not conducive to year round swimming, such as Wisconsin or Colorado, replace your swimming pool dreams with something else, such as a hot tub.

High Maintenance Landscaping: There is landscaping, and then there is high maintenance landscaping. High maintenance landscaping – a lawn filled with trimmed trees, shrubs, and an assortment of flowers – may look particularly nice, and cause your neighbors to grow green with envy of your green thumb, but this kind of landscaping takes quite a bit of time, time you might not always have. Instead of going overboard and making your lawn parallel some botanic garden, keep your lawn nice with simple means. Landscape with flowers and shrubs that don’t require a lot of attention and stay away from landscaping with the kinds of flowers and shrubs who think they are all that and a bag of wood chips.
