Milos Forman has always had a knack for assembling tall ensemble casts. This is particularly suitable in his most critically acclaimed releases (Taking Off, Amadeus and this film) . It would be difficult indeed to advance up with actors and actresses who were better fine to believe the roles in OFOTCN. This is apt in terms of both the stars, Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, and the secondary characters. Who could have been a better Harding than William Redfield? A better Billy Bibbit than Brad Dourif? A better Cheswick than Sydney Lassick? And most especially, a better Chief Bromden than Will Sampson?

I foul this movie as the best of the best of what I assume to be American Cinema’s golden decade, the 70s. It certainly won the widest acclaim, with its sweep of the major Oscars for 1975 (Nicholson also won best actor from the Fresh York Film Critics voters that year) .

Not to be overlooked is the astounding job performed by the film’s adaptors, Bo Goldman and Lawrence Hauben, who also won Oscars for their screenplay. Legal, they did have a fairly decent stage version (by Dale Wasserman) to work with. I remember seeing an suited production of the play, with a terrific cast, in San Francisco circa 1972. Impartial as an aside, I read in the Norton Significant edition of the unique, a review of a NY production of the play by Walter Kerr that was an absolute pan. Suffice it to say that the movie is distinguished different than either the recent or the play. Those familiar with Kesey’s gargantuan unique understand how difficult a transfer from page to hide would be; about a third of the yarn is Bromden’s delusional interior monologue. The final script, quite rightly, focuses almost exclusively on Randal P McMurphy’s struggle with Nurse Ratched for the hearts and minds of the inmates.

This is truly a gut and soul-wrenching movie, with many moments of high maniacal comedy interspersed. Though many of his other films are righteous, this is Forman’s masterpiece. If you haven’t read the book, read it. It you don’t gain this movie, choose it. There are few works in the history of American literature and film that are helpful.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)

The film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is adapted from a recent of the same name written by Ken Kesey. The movie carries with it symbolism through color, sounds, and images and the casting could not have been more capable. Jack Nicholson is cast in the lead role as Randle Patrick McMurphy, a ne’er-do-well who goes into a mental institution to attain off his jail sentence. He figures it will be more leisurely than the work farm. His nemesis is Nurse Ratched, cast and played extraordinarily by Louise Fletcher. The movie does well in incorporating feelings and colors that surround the viewer with the mental institution’s atmosphere. And the sounds and images achieve forth by director Milos Forman add to that ambiance. One of the film’s biggest successes lies in the cinematography (or lack thereof) . Virtually all the scenes, even when the inmates go outside, are bleak and boring. The lighting in the institution is the fluorescent, white-out type of lighting. Every slippery hospital surface is revealed and the viewer can almost smell the hospital cleaning fluids emanating from the shroud. The hospital has no quick-witted satisfied colors, either. It is filmed in the dusky blues and greys of the ward that resemble the patients’ despair. The patients are dressed in shaded grey as well and the nurse, as always, wears stark white. The nurse’s appearance also holds symbolism in it. Her uniform is always perfectly pressed. And her hat is always on straight. She represents order and authority, and her uniform is one symbolic affect of that order. It totally contrasts the patient’s mien – always disheveled, wearing demeaning hospital robes. The director uses wonderfully disenchanting sounds to represent to the audience the afflict and helplessness of the patients. One patient is constantly remarking how tired he is and other characters are constantly stuttering and “acting exclusive.” Random yells echo throughout the halls. The echo allows for the hospital’s feeling of emptiness and loneliness and gives it a cavernous feel. Its halls are never ending and flee from this institution is futile. The echoes bounce off every surface, trapping each patient in their absorb madness. The consume of hospital noises and colors add to the realistic scenery of the film. It is masterfully done, and each audience member is forced to go through the injure and despair of the patients. The subject matter has always been one I like. The ragamuffin character comes in and saves all the horribly despondent people from pure emotional hurt. As if those patients didn’t have it dreadful enough, they are constantly being controlled by the Tremendous Nurse. She represents order, authority – the Establishment. And these awful souls are putting their lives in her hands, only for her to assume advantage of them. Milos Forman puts this sage in perfect visual acquire, not using too many film techniques to grasp away from the anecdote at hand. Colors, images, and sounds carried from the unusual to the veil are constant and well-done. The feeling one gets from the movie is delicously contaminated, as most asylums surely are. A phenomenal narrative by Kesey and direction by Forman, and an uncanny portrayal of McMurphy by Nicholson, allow the record to live on in visual acquire.

I am the mother of an 18-month-old daughter who is an absolute Elmo nut! We saw this movie in the theater and it was the first time she has sat serene for more than five minutes since she was a very minute baby. She hardly even blinked during the entire 73 minutes of the movie. Estimable movie and I would recommend it to all parents of children who like Elmo.

I wasn’t clear how my daughter would be in a theater (she’s 2 1/2 & this was our first time), but I needn’t have skittish. She was captivated! It was cute & exciting for me; but she loved it. Burt & Ernie kept the notion of falling into Grouchland from being too scary, and the tunes were enthralling. I highly recommend for all pre-schoolers!

Hitchcock’s macabre classic finally gets its due on this DVD Collector’s Edition. The film, which by turns thrills (the various bird attacks) and amuses (the frequently bantering dialogue), is presented in all its widescreen glory — an vital consideration for Hitchcock enthusiasts, given the director’s meticulous planning of his films’ visual compositions. “The Birds” features some substantial cinematography, a nerve-wracking soundtrack, and some finely wrought performances (particularly those of Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette and Ethel Griffies) ; all are well-served by the film-to-DVD transfer. There are a wealth of bonus features, including newsreel footage of Hitchcock and Hedren publicizing the film, an extensive stills gallery, and a intriguing leisurely the scenes production documentary. Especially involving are the ad-libbed conceal test clips pairing Hedren with “Psycho” player Martin Balsam while Hitchcock provides verbal instructions off-camera! All in all, a most welcome addition to my DVD collection, and one I’m delighted to recommend for yours.

Alfred Hitchcock apparently spent the better section of two years trying to gather subject matter that he felt would be righteous of a follow up film after 1960’s PSYCHO. He bought Daphne duMaurier’s short memoir, “The Birds”, and very expeditiously decided that he would only keep the title, and the bird attack region point. Evan Hunter and Hitchcock crafted the screenplay structure, and after a staggering amount of technical pre-production, Hitchcock made THE BIRDS. It opened to tremendous acclaim from the public, if not critics, and is one of the master of suspense’s best remembered pictures. As it should be. And with the glowing current DVD edition, this terrific movie at last gets the home video treatment it so richly deserves.

The transfer is immaculately moving and certain, letterboxed at the 1.85:1 ratio extinct for theatrical exhibition, and the mono digital sound is smart and vibrant. The letterboxing actually gives the film more breathing room, and some of the sequences, especially the complex technical passages such as the attack on the school, and the spectacular attack on the town, have a visceral punch that’s ratcheted up by the clarity of the digital image and sound. Don’t be build off by the many sodium process shots that were necessitated by the demands of the screenplay; they are perfectly gash into the film, and give the movie a archaic realism that is perfectly in keeping with Hitchcock’s stylized thought of reality. His films are all designed within an stride of their lives, and the audience is all the better for it.

The extras on this collector’s edition are quite notable. A featurette entitled “All About The Birds” presents interviews with actors Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Veronica Cartwright, along with various technical personnel, and is attractive and paunchy of information about the film’s production. Also featured are Tippi’s conceal test, production notes, a trailer, and web links. This is one package that beautifully showcases a film which gets better each time you notice it.

Frederico Fellini’s masterwork 8 ½ is difficult to advance largely because of its reputation. Many critics also dwelling that the film is so complex that it requires multiple viewings to understand, and this is likely to intimidate many viewers. But the truth is that, in spite of its surrealistic flourishes, 8 ½ is more straight-forward than its reputation might lead you to own.

The storyline itself is very simple. A notorious director is preparing a unusual film, but finds himself suffering from creative block: he is obsessed by, loves, and feels unending frustration with both art and women, and his attention and ambition flies in so many different directions that he is suddenly incapable of focusing on one possibility lest he assure all others. With deadlines approaching the cast and crew fall upon him demanding information about the film-information that the director does not have because he finds himself incapable of making an artistic choice.

What makes the film challenging is the method in which Fellini ultimately transforms the film as a whole into a commentary on the nature of creativity, art, mid-life crisis, and the battle of the sexes. Throughout the film, the director dreams dreams, has fantasies, and recalls his childhood-and this internal life is presented on the veil with the same sense of reality as reality itself. The staging of the various shots is unique; one is seldom aware that the characters have slipped into a dream, fantasy, or memory until one is well into the scene, and as the film progresses the lines between external life and internal understanding become increasingly blurred, with Fellini giving as powerful (if not more) importance to fantasy as to fact.

The performances and the cinematography are key to the film’s success. Even when the film becomes surrealistic, unbelievable, the actors make very realistically and the cinematography presents the scene in keeping with what we understand to be the reality of the characters lives and relationships. At the same time, however, the film has a remarkably poetic quality, a visual fluidity and beauty that transforms even the most ordinary events into something slightly tinged by a dream-like quality. Marcello Mastroianni offers a his greatest performance here, a elegant mixture of desperation and ennui, and he is exceptionally well supported by a cast that includes Claudia Cardinale, Anouk Aimee, and a host of other notables.

I would assist people not to be intimidated by the film’s reputation, for its roar can be expeditiously grasped, and when critics area the film requires repeated viewing what they actually seem to mean is that the film holds up extremely well to repeated viewing; each time it is seen, one finds more and more to relish and to explore. Even so, I would be amiss if I did not point out that people who retract a cinema of shipshape state lines and who disfavor ambiguity or the necessity of interpreting reveal will probably loathe 8 ½ a vast deal; if you are dangerous in your taste on these points you would do well to rent or borrow the film before making a retract. For all others: strongly, strongly recommended.

The most determined achievement in 8 1/2, Fellini’s mind-boggling portion of self-examination, is its gallant mixture of dreams and reality in order to note the protagonist Guido’s whimsical mind spot. Dream sequences reach and go without warning, depicting Guido’s wound, yearning, frustration, guilt that can pop up at any instant. The first time we explore Guido’s face, it is his mirror image, hinting to us the unreality we are about to face. Some of the dream sequences have a Bunuel-like surrealism. Some of them, however, blend almost seamlessly into scenes of reality, intentionally confounding us. Some are nightmarish, yet some are warm and hopeful. Some are brief flights of worship, and some are lengthy, clarify, wild visions that deem Guido’s heightened sense of confusion and apprehension. Although the film is often called the best film ever made about a filmmaker, its theme is universal in that it is a smart picturization of a person’s (and by extension, any person’s) mind, which is often petrified by the past, tormented by the note, and tremulous about the future and the unknown…

The fresh Criterion DVD of 8 1/2 has a dazzling video transfer. A frame-by-frame cleanup of the represent has been done, so this DVD is significantly better-looking than Criterion’s laserdisc version in 1989. There are momentary freeze frames during the opening scene, but since they also appeared on the LD, I steal they are normal. The 1.0 mono audio track is indistinguishable in quality from that on the LD — it is mostly desirable and piquant, although loud sound shows some distortion. The image is anamorphic. The disc is region-free. The audio is supported by newly-translated optional English subtitles.

Buy,Download, Or Stream 8 1/2 – Criterion Collection! Click Here

There is one limited discrepancy between the LD and the DVD. The LD contained the American release version of the film in which some scenes, such as the one in which Guido first meets his wife, had altered music cues. The DVD, however, is the new Italian version, retaining all of its recent music.

The DVD’s audio commentary comprises of scene-specific comments (whose authorship is unclear), and additional comments from critic Gideon Bachmann and NYU professor Antonio Monda. The result is a graceful well-rounded audio essay covering the film’s plan, production details, themes, and artistic significance, as well as personal recollections, anecdotes, and abandoned concepts and scenes. Other extras include two 1-hour films on the filmmakers. The first is “Fellini: A Director’s Notebook”, directed by and starring Fellini himself. It is a sort of Fellini-style DAY FOR NIGHT, a fictional, somewhat silly memoir of how the director goes about making a film. The video/audio quality of this section is unpleasant, and there are no subtitles or closed captioning. The second film is a documentary made by German filmmakers in 1993 titled “Nino Rota: Between Cinema and Concert”. It offers an intimate yet enigmatic portrayal of Nino Rota through his personal recordings, film footage of him working with Fellini, clips of some early films scored by Rota, and interviews of his associates and students. One segment is about how Rota recycled his collect from the 1957 film FORTUNELLA to make the theme for THE GODFATHER, an act that would cost him the Oscar nomination. The DVD extras also include 3 recent interviews. Sandra Milo speaks candidly about her experiences, both personal and professional, with Fellini. Linda Wertmuller lavishes praises on Fellini’s genius while offering a appealing appraisal of Fellini’s psychology that figures prominently in 8 1/2. And Vittorio Storaro pays tributes to the achievements of 8 1/2’s cinematographer, Gianni di Venanzo. Rounding out the extras are 100 or so aloof photos from the area of the film, some of which were taken from deleted scenes.

And P.S. don’t listen to the naysayers about the modern music sing you will read in the reviews for the other seasons that have been released. There is nothing that can be done about that now and the series aloof beats anything released in the past ten years. The writing and acting is respectable! You will care for it! I promise.

OK, this is how it should have been done from the outset. For those who either don’t know or don’t remember, NORTHERN EXPOSURE was originally a summer replacement prove, beginning to rush only a couple of weeks after TWIN PEAKS in 1990. That first summer season ran 8 episodes and the following spring the second season ran for 7 episodes, meaning that Seasons One and Two speed to a stout total of 15 episodes. Despite this, the first two seasons were originally released as separate box sets but priced as worthy as fat single seasons. It was one of the most overpriced pair of sets in the relatively short history of DVDs. No sane person would have considered buying them (I rented from Netflix) . Now, however, sane people can reflect getting the first two seasons. I already contain Seasons Three and Four, and now I can add Seasons One and Two.

Before saying a couple of things about the seasons, let me say that people who complain about the soundtrack really need to . . . I apologize beforehand for any impoliteness here . . . shut up!!! Perceive, music substitution is fair going to be piece of the future from here on out in TV shows coming out on DVD. There is simply no draw around it. Or rather, if you want to blame someone, blame ASCAP and BMI and RIAA. Here is the right deal: as long as these folks continue to staunch such gargantuan royalties for the utilize of songs, we are going to fetch vastly less expensive songs substituted for the novel ones. There is simply no arrangement around it. The makers of the DVDs have two choices: substitute music and sell the sets at reasonable prices or utilize the new music and sell the sets at absurdly high prices. Want to pay $100 per season of NORTHERN EXPOSURE? Well, neither do I. But to accumulate the modern music that is what it is going to cost. So, the choice really is substituting music or paying through the nose for our DVDs. This is the very reason why ALLY McBEAL may never some out on DVD. That explain was written too tightly to particular songs to enable substitution. Moral now they are unable to near up with pricing that makes it possible to bring it out on DVD. Someday? Maybe. But until such nonproductive entities as I mentioned above (especially RIAA), who bear rights but really don’t do anything for anyone that matters, especially the artists, inaugurate bringing the fees charged down to a reasonable level, substitution is going to be the standard practice.

What gets me about NORTHERN EXPOSURE is how expeditiously it found itself. The surrealism that graced so many episodes would only approach with the second season, but the atmosphere of weirdness took situation almost immediately. In the first episode, it was at first Joel Fleischman who seemed a bit exclusive, as he bored some innocent fellow passenger on his flight to Alaska. But as soon as he was dropped off at the bus discontinuance on his blueprint to Cicely and was picked up by Ed Chigliak, he was one of the least eccentric residents of the town. The reveal made adjustments. Holling and Shelly were not at first as prominent as they later would be; Chris hadn’t quite found himself as the spiritual reveal of Cicely; Maggie wasn’t yet as weird as she would become; and Peg Phillips as Ruth-Anne wasn’t yet a permanent cast member. Serene, as shows go, this one was fine considerable in Season One the point to we would know later. By Season Two, it was resplendent worthy the exhibit it would be through the first five seasons.

One of my preoccupations in watching television has been the ways shows handle account. After HILL STREET BLUES in the early 1980s, the price of most of what has reach to be known by TV theorists as Quality TV shows has been multiple, ongoing yarn threads. Especially after advances in TV tale by TWIN PEAKS and THE X-FILES, both of which overlapped with NORTHERN EXPOSURE, narratives were not merely multi-threaded but long term. NORTHERN EXPOSURE may have been the last Quality TV demonstrate to feature almost exclusively stand-alone episodes that determine all or most of the account arcs with each episode. Especially after BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (1997-2003) virtually all Quality TV shows feature long and multiple myth arcs (though accepted with audiences, few critics or TV theorists have considered any of the shows in the LAW AND ORDER or CSI franchises Quality TV, but as regressions to an earlier period in TV history) . One trace of more narratively complex shows is that they have to be shown in a particular order. For instance, you couldn’t assume an episode of Season Two of BUFFY and set it in Season Four. Although NORTHERN EXPOSURE does not use multiple yarn arcs or utilize long story, it does fragment this feature for the most fraction with other Quality TV shows. Although the DVDs frequently reorder the episodes compared with the fresh airing dates, frequent mention is made to previous episodes. It is an consuming diagram NORTHERN EXPOSURE varies from other shows structured around stand-alone episodes.

This really is a very special television explain, with one of the best collection of characters in the history of TV. I’ve told friends that while I have shows I like more, like BUFFY and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT and ANGEL and FARSCAPE, if I had like the characters in PLEASANTVILLE enter a TV world and live there, my choice would definitely be Cicely. These are characters I’ve advance to cherish and care about in a method that differs from any other collection of characters. And now that they have repackaged the first two seasons in saner fashion, any sane individual who wants to beget them can.

This DVD should be held up as an example of what DVDs are all about. The transfer and restoration of this 50 year outmoded film is noble. It is the reason we are willing to employ a shrimp more to upgrade from VHS and are awed when we seek the fantastic results. Filmed in “VistaVision”, the widescreen relate lets you hold in every scene of this amazing classic from edge to edge. The recount is obvious, curious and in blooming technicolor. The colors are lovely and vibrant.

You have the choice of viewing it in DD5.1 surround or the restored Mono. For those looking for some special features, Rosemary Clooney helps out with a retrospective interview and also commentary. There are English subtitles for those needing them and may also be viewed in French(mono) .

The film is a love in itself. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye,Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen are the stars of this 1954 musical with songs by Irving Berlin that you’ll want to state along with and support humming long after the film has ended. Directed by Michael Curtiz it’s a feel righteous film that although takes position during the Christmas season, is one that you can pull out and recognize anytime of the year.

Bing and Danny were Army buddies, now a successful song and dance team and are out to back their well-liked mature retired General(Dean Jagger),who is having misfortune coping with retirement. The General is now running a country inn in Vermont, but the tall quandary is there is no snow to bring up the tourists. Bing and Danny to the rescue, as they turn the inn into a showcase of talent, and descend for the Haines sisters along the arrangement. Can these fantastic voices also bring the snow out of the sky? …well..you know.

This film is filled with Berlin’s fabulous tunes. When Bing takes Rosemary’s petite hand in his and croons “Count Your Blessings” to her..well it’s movie heaven. Rosemary also treats us to several numbers, Vera-Ellen does some incredible hoofing, and Danny clowns and keeps us smiling like only Danny can. And how mighty fun is it watching Bing and Danny do the “Sisters” number together? …alot! Then there’s the goose bump evoking, wonderfully nostalgic scene of the four of them singing “White Christmas” together with the Winter Wonderland of Vermont as a backdrop.I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fabulous character actress Mary Wicks, she’s a tall busy-body who causes misunderstandings, and also preserve an look out for George Chakiris and Barrie Race.

Thanks Paramount for bringing us this colossal ancient classic holiday film on this colossal DVD…devour…Laurie

Naturally, I expected that the same loving treatment would be given an weak popular like White Christmas, which was the first feature film shot in Paramount’s pleasant wide-screen process called Vista-Vision.

Not so! This current “remaster” is unbiased as dreary-looking as the older DVD. Grainy and soft with an unstable peer and expressionless colors except in some brightly lit “performance” scenes. Also lots of dirt marks and scattered speckles, plus an plain splice or two. And NO unique extras! Where is the expected featurette about the Vista-Vision system – newly made or at least some extinct promotional reel taken from a shelf in the archives? A big disappointment! And by the plan, where are all the many beloved Paramount classics from the fifties and sixties that have not yet been released on DVD? Not a single title in look for the coming months. Dusky.

This movie does not follow the book exactly, but how could that catch away from the beauty of it? The target audience is a younger crowd, if the movie followed the book exactly I doubt it would entertain as this one does. I fancy the book, and I cherish this movie.. Unless you are a nerdy book worm, you should appreciate it too.. Enormous acting, huge color, and broad scenery build it a fun movie to study!

Eventhough the movie director didn’t follow and conceal the recent tale of book in this movie, i contemplate this movie is superb because Jim and Huck had free from their previous space at the raze of the movie (Huck got free from civilized society and Jim got free from slavery. Likewise, we can view both movie director and Price Twain have same purpose because in my plan, conclusion shows their final messages. Therefore, the conclusion is really necessary in our life.

Some people doesn’t like this movie because the movie skips a lot of well-known parts of the book. For example, Tom did not expose up in the movie. In general, the movie can’t demonstrate everything within microscopic time(usually 2 hours length) So, i deem the most distinguished thing is to send a message. MAny people also disappointed about the movie Harry Potter but everything depends on your feeling. For me, this movie tells the main ideas from the book and shows vast scenery with genuine actors.

I recommend this movie

This review is of the Alpha dvd of “Lady Gangster.” It’s described on the camouflage as a “Warner Brothers noir classic”, but I believe that’s going a shrimp too far. I guess it earns a status in what Eddie Muller would call the caper subgenre of film noir, but it’s also in the “women-in-prison” genre. In any event, it’s an ulta-low budget film that barely lasts over an hour, and it’s never terribly arresting or compelling. So why the four star rating? Because this is one of those movies that’s so dreadful it’s generous! You’ve probably never heard of any of the cast, except for a young Jackie Gleason in a supporting role. Despite the fact that he plays a tough guy, he calm unprejudiced looks like a bulky teddy possess that you can’t assist but laugh at!

Faye Emerson stars as Dorothy Burton, the only female member of a gang that has fair robbed another bank. Everything goes smoothly, until a dog somehow gets her into pain with the police, who arrest her. Ever gawk how dogs usually bring on the downfall of the main character in noirs, like in “High Sierra” and “The Killing”? Anyway, she’s arrested on charges of being an accomplice in the bank robbery, but she’s released soon thanks to an obsolete friend, Kenneth Phillips (played by Frank Wilcox), who’s a very influential reporter. However, she starts to feel guilty and decides to inform the truth and heads fair aid to jail. In the women’s prison she becomes cessation friends with one prisoner (Julie Bishop) while becoming enemies with two other prisoners, one an plain, cold-hearted deaf woman and the other a prissy, annoying stool pigeon.

Before going to jail, Dorothy had hidden the stolen $40,000 from her three accomplices after finding out they were going to double-cross her. They’re not too overjoyed about her hiding the money, and one of them dresses in ride (and this is a 1942 movie!) in order to fool the guards and stare Dorothy on visiting day. This is obviously the most (unintentionally) hilarious scene of the whole film! The deaf girl and the stool pigeon rep out about the missing money and they philosophize the warden, which immediately ruins Dorothy’s chances of getting a parole. Thinking it was Kenneth who betrayed her, she tricks him into going to her apartment to win the money, where unknown to him Dorothy’s three accomplices are waiting to destroy him.

When she finds out that Kenneth didn’t betray her, she breaks out of jail(!) and tries to put him while redeeming herself in the process. I won’t spoil the ending, but let’s unprejudiced say it wasn’t exactly an edge-of-the-seat thriller! Overall, I’d say this movie is definitely worth getting if you’re a film noir fanatic like me, because you’ll have a lot of fun laughing at the dated dialogue, cliches, and of course the female prisoners with flawless make-up and hairdos! And unpleasant Jackie Gleason probably didn’t realize that this “serious” role was one of his funniest! His most memorable line in this is: “I don’t like to contemplate a dame like that rep mixed up in a job like this.” Considering the age of this little-known movie, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall very favorable represent and sound quality of the dvd. Highly recommended!

for a grade-P or Q noir explotation flick, this one’s unbiased about perfect … the “moll” speaking grammarically perfect English, slaps that don’t quite connect, the tough guys, the fight scenes that seem stilted somehow; the can’t-quite-figure-it-out treasure interest, major place holes, assorted prison buds and creeps, the ultra-kind matron, car chases, and on top of it all, a VERY young Jackie Gleason playing one of the gang, with several satisfactory lines. You can’t pick up better entertainment, intended or not, for this tag.
