Otto Preminger’s “Angel Face” has always had a special dwelling in my heart. Preminger, as a filmmaker, is certainly noteworthy–but aside from a few films (including “Laura” and “Anatomy of a Assassinate”), he isn’t one of my particular favorites. I don’t know–to me, he was more of a technician than an artist. He made edifying films, in general, but doesn’t have the appeal of some of the other “huge name” directors. I worship “Angel Face,” however, pleasing considerable for one reason–Jean Simmons. Simmons, I occupy, is one of our most underrated actresses. She has played the lead in some very high profile and versatile films, including the scathing “Elmer Gantry,” the yarn “Spartacus,” the terrific musical “Guys and Dolls,” and Olivier’s “Hamlet.” Relegated to mostly TV roles for the last few decades, I wish her film legacy was more widely appreciated. “Angel Face” is particularly distinguished in her film oeuvre because it gives her the rare opportunity to play a femme fatale type.

Robert Mitchum, playing an ambulance driver, responds to call appealing a wealthy matriarch. It seems as if Mrs. Tremayne has been mysteriously poisoned by gas. Upon his visit, he meets Mrs. Tremayne’s freeloading husband and her stepdaughter–played with haughty playfulness by Simmons. Infatuated with the young beauty, he soon falls under her spell and actually starts to work for the estate as the chauffeur. Relinquishing a musty relationship and financial independence, he becomes more and more keen in the family dynamic playing out in the mansion. It soon becomes apparent that not all is as it seems and a psychological thriller, of sorts, starts to compose.

Essentially, while “Angel Face” is structured as a traditional noir–it can also be judged as an effective character survey. From the haunting music, the dim stretches of mansion, the wistful stares from rain-streaked windows–the mood and atmosphere keep a familiar ambiance. But pitting the tough guy persona of Mitchum against the emotional aloofness of Simmons, we gape two certain and appealing personalities. Simmons, with her doll-like features and regal manner, is really what distinguishes this characterize. With a more typical noir leading lady, “Angel Face” would not be nearly as effective. Simmons’ playing against type adds to the suspense and mystery–it’s almost as if we are lured (along with Mitchum) deeper into the chronicle due to our expectations connected to Simmons as an actress.

I highly recommend “Angel Face.” While not Preminger’s best film, it certainly ranks in the top. And while not necessarily the best or most unusual noir, it certainly is effective and creepy. This is the case of a lot of talented individuals making a very solid and fascinating film. KGHarris, 01/07.

Angel Face was directed in 1952 by: Otto Preminger (Laura, 1944; Anatomy Of A Kill, 1959) . Otto Preminger’s `Laura’ is now rightly regarded as one of colossal film noir masterpieces, however he made some less appreciated noirs like Fallen Angel (1945) ; Whirlpool (1949) ; Where The Sidewalk Ends (1950) and this film Angel Face. Upon it’s release critics and public alike had seen perhaps far too many of this type of film hence the negative reviews. However I feel that this film is deserving of some rehabilitation. The theme is a familiar one of the Femme Fatale attempting to catch some chump to relieve in a execute. Angel Face is slightly different in that the Femme Fatale’s (performed by Jean Simmons (Immense Expectations, 1946; Hamlet, 1948; The Dusky Narcissus, 1947) ) motivation is not the standard killing for money but for adore. This makes it similar to the Ellen Berent character played by Gene Tierney in `Leave Her To Heaven’ (1946, John M. Stahl) . Generally in noir’s guys waste for the girl and girls for the money. Robert Mitchum (Out Of The Past, 1947; Crossfire, 1947; Night Of The Hunter, 1955) gives a extraordinary performance of a guy who is not so dumb as to derive suck into her trap. He also has some stout dialogue that one wish’s they could always have at hand to allege in those situations. Along with Humphrey Bogart and Burt Lancaster, Mitchum has to faulty as one of the huge noir actors. Cinematography was by Harry Stradling (A Streetcar Named Desire, 1951; Johnny Guitar, 1954; A Face In The Crowd, 1957)

This DVD comes with a fantastic audio commentary by Eddie Muller and is well worth a listen. In 1964 Jean-Luc Godard placed this film at no. 8 in his list of the greatest American films of the sound era. That alone should be worthy enough reason to investigate this film. It also has one of the immense endings.

“LOST” Season 2 makes its first entry to Blu-ray and similar to both Season 3 and Season 4, the Blu-ray’s allow for “SeasonPlay” that allows people to view as they go and can close, restart where they last left off. “SeasonPlay” is optional and people can lift it before watching an episode.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“LOST” is a series that looks unbelievable on High Definition. Featured in 1080p High Definition (aspect ratio of 1:78:1), the detail of the island is captured quite vibrantly. The green lush plants that surround the island, the blue skies, the blue ocean. Personally, most of the video footage shot in Hawaii tend to be vibrant in colors and “LOST” is no exception. There must have been a change with technical equipment for the second season because there is a quality dissimilarity from the first season and the second. You will observe that relate quality is more detailed, more vibrant and colors are objective absolutely popping in the second season compared to the first. Skin tones and pores are noteworthy more evident and overall, recount quality is graceful.

As for the audio, “LOST” is featured in DTS HD-Master Audio 5.1. The dialogue is quite definite but one thing that caught my attention is how comely the audio is in terms of capturing the ambiance of the island when each person is though-provoking through the jungle. This season tends to have weak more panning and audio directional to obvious speaker channels great more evident than the first season. Also, sounds of the island and even thunderstorms approach quite obvious through the various speaker channels. Also, obliging exercise of surrounds and LFE. Overall, there appears to be more utilization of sound and how sound was passe in the second season compared to the first.

Also, I loved how music and sounds really brought an overall mood to clear scenes. The music by Michael Giacchino and the procedure the orchestra creates that tension for the scenes was awesome. So, music plays a gargantuan share in the series and the music soundtrack is unbiased fantastic!

JUDGMENT CALL:

The second season of “LOST” was trustworthy. The first season established that the survivors were not the only people on the island and that there were “Others” that didn’t like them being there.

But I always believed that there had to be other survivors from the plane wreckage since the plane broke apart in three sections and clear enough, the second season addressed that and we were introduced to modern characters. I know that for some viewers, adding additional characters when there were so many other characters that viewers were following already may be a bit overkill but for me, it was needed.

I felt that there was really top-notch planning on how these characters were introduced but it did get me danger of how many major characters were being killed off in the series and I know for some people, they wondered if there was a correlation of them being killed off from the prove due to their accurate life experiences of being busted for DUI.

Suffice to say that Michelle Rodriguez character of Ana Lucia had this love/hate relationship with fans because of her abrasiveness. But as a passe police officer and the things that she has done in her exact life, you can understand why she was the dominant survivor from the tail-end. I actually enjoyed every unique character introduced and especially how the series sets the tone with the characters of Desmond and Ben Linus who play such a major factor on “LOST” in the next three seasons.

As for the new survivors, “LOST” really does play with one’s emotions especially with the characters of Sayid and Hurley who have been keep through major lows because of clear incidents. Charlie and Michael, who were fan favorites have become men who rapid grown improper with their actions in the second season and the worship triangle between Jack, Kate and Sawyer has been intensified. Especially the leadership between both Jack and Locke and putting these two characters at odds with each other.

Personally, I felt there was a immense amount of storyline and character development flashbacks that were fair unbelievable to ogle. Answers to lingering questions from the first season but also more questions added in the second season as well.

With the introduction of the DHARMA Initiative and the HANSO foundation, it definitely gave writers a chance to play with podcasts, commercial ads, Internet websites, online videos and even audio books to tease people about this mysterious group. And like many fans, even I found myself engrossed by following these various side stories and conspiracy theories.

“LOST – THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON” was a improbable season that kept many fans in their seats and unbiased vexed by determined developments of the series including major character deaths. There was plenty of action of drama, action and its definitely gripping to peruse this season once again and eye how complex the planning went for this second season.

But I absolutely enjoyed “LOST” in its second season. Granted, I may be a “Lostie” and have a strong bias towards this series but I truly possess that this is one of the best drama series on television in the last decade and to spy and appreciate the series with improved narrate and audio quality on Blu-ray is honest fabulous!

“LOST – THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON” is highly recommended!

It was dart to happen — after a breathtaking first season, expectations were high for the continuation of “Lost,” a creepy, semi-mystical series with a checkered cast and an exotic island setting.

“Lost’s” second season builds on the tale of the first season, picking up where it left off. Though it has some flaws — a bit of unpleasant casting and some flow in the “island” stories — it’s tranquil engrossing and eerie, and solves customary mysteries as it introduces novel ones, with frightening twists on characters you view you knew.

As the season opens, Locke, Kate and Jack finally enter the mysterious hatch. But they didn’t count on finding a concrete bunker, a button that might postpone doomsday — and a frantic man who is very familiar to Jack. Meanwhile, Michael, Sawyer and Jin manage to earn it relieve to the island — and are promptly captured by a band of strangers.

These people turn out to be castaways from the fallen plane’s tail portion, led by the suspicious Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodrieguez) . They get the trail to the opposite side of the island, but as they approach, Ana makes a fatal mistake — she shoots Shannon. Nice map to initiate integrating the groups.

As the season goes on, unusual personal crises arise when Locke loses faith in the island, Michael goes off to accept Walt, Hurley falls in care for with one of the tailies, Claire explores what happened to her during her “missing month,” and Sawyer scores an unexpected coup which gets him all the guns in the camp.

As the season goes on, things inaugurate to heat up. The mysterious French woman gives an “Other” she trapped over to Sayid, but is he really an enemy, or unbiased an innocent castaway? And as Locke and Eko behold the honest purpose of the hatches, one of the lost returns to the camp — and treachery is guiding the castaways into a trap…

“Lost”’s second seasons started out strong and thrilling, then hit a wearisome position for a few episodes, before picking serve up again. While the middling episodes are solid enough, the best parts are at the originate and enact, where the writers throw several ghastly twists into the storyline.

The mystery of the island itself is not solved — the presence of the mysterious Dharma Corporation is revealed. But the corporation doesn’t clarify how the island has healing powers. Some answers are revealed, and some mysteries simply pick up more complex. On the character backstory front, the castaways’ problems calm haunt them, from imaginary friends to torture to drugs.

The returning cast continues the compelling job they did in the first season, especially Dominic Monaghan, Evangeline Lilly, Daniel Dae Kim, Naveen Andrews, and Jorge Garcia, who all score their pasts raked up again; the actors do a dazzling job with guilt, sorrow, longing, and adore. In fact, all of them do a great job, including ex-star Maggie Grace, who manages to design us actually LIKE Shannon in her final episode.

As for the “tailies,” there are profitable and terrible choices. Michelle Rodrieguez was an appalling choice, since her butch ex-cop is the same character she’s been doing for years. But on the flip side is Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who lickety-split won fans’ hearts as the spiritual Mr. Eko, a mysterious and perilous priest/drugrunner. Deem a Christian counterpart to Locke’s animist believer.

The extras are a fairly valid bunch — the video and sound are beautifully spruced up, and it has deleted scenes, a bunch of featurettes (on everything from the awesome Sawyer to the unusual theories that the expose provokes), Easter eggs, audio commentary with writers, directors and actors, reduce flashbacks sneak peeks, bloopers, and so on and so forth.

“Lost” stumbled a bit in the middle of the second season, but regained its footing for evil, explosive episodes leading up to the finale. If only all second seasons were as trustworthy as this.

Cheaply made garbage!!! The animation itself is awful enough, but a group of British folk did ALL the yell dubbing for this film, and not one of them knows the first thing about acting OR sounding enthralling! Halt FAR AWAY from this paper weight!

Very disapionted. Dubbing was trash, a 3rd grader could arrive up with a better memoir line.

This series is a vast follow-up to the classic film. For those who like action, Ninja Scroll has that and more! Even beyond the many and varied monsters that the protagonist Jubei encounters, what’s truly fabulous about the series is the balance between action, drama, and humor. I’ve been watching anime for years, and I was aloof blown away Ninja Scroll TV!

Any fan of vast packages will like the treatment of the box place. The artwork (which you can’t view from the outside) is attractive and smart, and the Puny Edition version comes in a smart silver case with a really sweet Jubei action figure. The bonus fourth disc has some frosty stuff, the best being a video tour of Angry House Animation Studio, and the audio commentary tracks a discontinuance second. I’m really cheerful with this situation, and I recommend it to anyone who’s a fan of either Ninja Scroll or chilly anime sets in general.

The following is a review of the movie, and I will be updating the review of the DVD (which I have pre-ordered) once I receive it:

I loved the book. There are various elements and epic arcs running through the book that I could not abet but wonder how the director [David Yates] was going to pull it off. Well, the movie is definitely powerful more subdued than its predecessors, both in the effects, the violence, the consume of witchcraft, even the color palette is muted for most of the movie, conveying a sense of menace and possible doom in the confrontation between honorable and corrupt.

As an ardent fan of the books, and also the movies, I found this particular installment a tad underwhelming. Firstly, I was unnerved that the scriptwriters felt they had to include unnecessary scenes that were not even in the book [the waitress and Harry making a date at the beginning, the burning down of the Burrow, etc]. Instead, they left out bits that were actually in the books. Even crucial yarn arcs, like the employ of the Pensieve is not given enough shroud time, and seems almost rushed.

One of the enduring appeal of the movie franchise lies in its sense of wonder, and being able to transport viewers into a magical realm, where the irascible forces under the tutelage of the unlit lord Voldemort try to vanquish the forces of well-behaved as portrayed by Harry Potter, the Chosen One and also the Order of the Phoenix. In this latest movie installment, I felt that the element of wonder was lacking. Great of what is portrayed is presented as it is, and if this was watched by someone original to the world of Harry Potter, the person would be bewildered and lost. At least in the other installments, especially in the first four, a lot of background information is provided [so that even my husband, who has not read any books in the series was able to follow the story]. For example, there is no hint whatsoever as to why Bellatrix Lestrange has such a venomous hatred of Harry, nor why Harry is curved on going after her [and I'm not saying why here either, for the sake of HP virgins].

I guess piece of the scrape is that HP & the Half-Blood Prince provides the catalyst for the events that are to transpire in the last book, Deathly Hallows, and the movie version is to be played out in two parts. So, understandably, a lot of ground work is laid out here, resulting in a dialogue heavy movie, and less than spectacular special effects [the Quidditch scene was completely underwhelming in my opinion]. The main characters, such as Harry [Daniel Radcliffe], Hermione [Emma Watson], and Ron [Rupert Grint] are also facing some serious hormone issues and relationship problems, hence the rather subdued tone. Gone are the days of easy bantering and camaraderie…the dynamics between the three have shifted to one of awkward uneasiness, as Ron and Hermione try to approach to terms with the changes in their friendship, and Harry deals with his strong attraction to Ginny Weasley. In this, I felt the actors did a spacious job – the three have approach a long arrangement from their first year at Hogwarts, and have truly embraced these roles, portraying them with depth and insight.

Draco Malfoy’s role as portrayed by Tom Felton, finally gets more visibility. Draco is no longer merely glowering all the time, but deals with some genuine problems that may cost him his very soul, and Felton did a credible job portraying his inner conflict. Michael Gambon is marvelous as Dumbledore, relying more heavily on Harry in this yarn, as he tries desperately to reveal Potions Professor Slughorn’s [Jim Broadbent]one crucial memory concerning Tom Riddle [the Gloomy Lord] that may abet in their fight against the Unlit Lord.

The others such as Severus Snape [Alan Rickman], Minerva McGonagall [Maggie Smith],& Hagrid [Robbie Coltrane] have less visibility this time around. It really does focus on a unbiased a few central characters, though Snape does play an famous role here [just that he doesn't glean as mighty shroud time as I would have liked]. With regards to Snape, I have to say I’m a gigantic fan of Alan Rickman’s acting – he brings spacious depth to the portrayal of the Hogwarts teacher, eliciting reactions that vary from disgust to madden and even sympathy through the course of the six installments. He impresses even in minor scenes. I do spy forward to more of Snape in the last two installments as his role is pivotal to the series! As for the stern but kind-hearted Prof McGonagall, I have read some reports as to Dame Maggie Smith’s ill health and pray that she is well enough to complete the last two movies, as I simply cannot imagine any other actress in her role.

All in all, it is unexcited an curious anecdote, and I have pre-ordered the DVD. The reason I only gave it three stars is because it did not discontinue as faithful to the book as I would have liked, and lacked the substantial colossal sense of wonder & magic I’ve reach to associate with the series. This has been the darkest installment in the series thus far – so I can understand the depressing tone underlying the movie, yet, I composed feel the director could have traditional better colors and lightened up some aspects of the movie where appropriate. Btw, I found the derive completely underwhelming, and I really miss the incredible collect that was in the earlier movies [except Piece 5]. Here’s hoping Deathly Hallows Fragment I and II will fare better [also directed by David Yates].

My main gripe with the previous Harry Potter movie “Order of the Phoenix” was that for some unique reason they took the longest of the books and turned it into the shortest Harry Potter movie to date. The result was that I felt like I was watching the movie soar by on a speeding divulge, as it rushed from one key event to another without really taking the time to perceive anything in detail.

Now we follow up with “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” and….what a inequity. There are plenty of cuts of course, no Harry Potter movie can be free of cuts without being waaaay too long. But the movie’s length was at least comparable to some of the others. The 3 lead characters were as status on as ever. Michael Gambon finally brings a bit more warmth to his portrayal of Albus Dumbledor than he brought to the last few movies. Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy with all the depth one would hope for in his most famous role in the series. Alan Rickman isn’t seen too powerful as Severus Snape, but when he is he’s as astonishing as ever.

I really judge this may be the best Harry Potter film yet, and I was really starting to contemplate after the last film that the epic had gotten to vast for them to manage in film. Capable work guys.

I work as a psychotherapist with adolescents and young adults. I employ “Smoke Signals” with them by assigning them to rent and conception the movie, which is always savory because it’s witty, droll, wise, and valuable. The movie poses two valuable questions: 1) If someone else has mistreated, harm, abandoned, or disrespected you, is it possible to forgive them if they’ve NEVER asked forgiveness, never done anything to “do it factual,” never returned in atonement to undo the hurt, and never begtun to deserve it? And 2) if it *is* possible–and it may not be–SHOULD you? Because if you do, doesn’t that unprejudiced manufacture you a willing victim by letting them “obtain away” with what they did, and pretending the relationship is okay again?

Victor lives in the tension of this pickle. As a 12-year-old youth, he witnessed the effects of alcohol on his family. His father vascillated between being loving and instantly “turning” to become hostile, violent, and humiliating to the young boy. Victor finds himself becoming more deeply embarrassed by his family’s domestic abuse and alcohol utilize, even defiantly scolding his fill father that his approved Indian is “Nobody…nobody…nobody!”

Victor’s mother awakens the next morning to leer Victor angrily smashing his father’s beer bottles on the relieve of his father’s picup truck (the two things he believes his father loves more than him), and the epiphany stuns the mother, who insists on an immediate waste to family drunkenness. Proving Victor’s fears upright, the father–forced to determine between alcohol and family–flees the family, and never returns. It is within that unchanged design that his father dies, 8 years later, having never returned home.

Victor and his oddball companion Thomas produce a side-splittingly laughable go south from Idaho to Phoenix together to effect arrangements for the father’s possessions, confronted by the racism, peculiarities, and hostilities of the non-Indian “outside” world. Thomas, having never seen the black side of Victor’s father, irritates Victor with incessant stories and tales about the dad’s greatness.

Victor, having been so deeply wounded and sold-out by his father’s abandonment, has become tough, fierce, aggressive…and lonely. “You can’t trust anyone!” he scolds. “People will hump all over you!” His mistrust poisons his friendships, family, and feelings about his father. He’s become unprejudiced another tough guy, hardened by family violence and substance spend.

In Phoenix, Victor finds an famous artifact of his father’s life: a worn-out photo with “HOME” written sloppily on it. At once, Victor begins to realize that his father’s fatal flaw was COWARDICE: the father could confess his sins to recent companions a thousand miles from home, but could never return home and undo the harm he’d caused. And so his son has suffered for 8 years. Victor begins to realize that he himself is allowing his actions to distress others, and that it is cowardice, not manly independence, that controls his decision to remain distant and fierce.

Victor slowly begins to repent of his have abusive toughness, cutting his hair in symbolic repentance (veteran hair-cutting is done either in anxiety, or in repentence for indecent behavior) . The process of discovery continues when Thomas angrily confronts Victor about Victor’s acquire behavior: remaining frosty and distant from his acquire mother, acting forceful and ruthless to others, etc.

Victor ends the film by freeing himself of his 8-year hostility toward his unforgiven father, and in that final act of forgiveness we fetch that the greatest succor is for VICTOR, who becomes kinder, funnier, gentler, and more confident in his friendships. The significance of forgiveness, he learns, isn’t to let someone else off the hook, but to let one’s beget self off the hook of the injure caused by another, rather than carrying that injure inside for years.

In the final scene, this release of mature inflame is represented by the cathartic release of his father’s ashes into a river, meaningfully shown in film montage as expanding in power from streams into torrents, mighty like the energy of either a person aroused or a person place free.

It is at the kill of the film that we really commence to understand Thomas’ unique cryptic protest at the beginning, “Some children aren’t really children at all. They’re impartial pillars of flame that burn everything they touch. And some children are unprejudiced pillars of ash, and they tumble apart as soon as you touch them.”

Not one single person yet who’s watched this film at my urging has disliked it.

“Smoke Signals” was the first movie to be written, directed, and co-produced by a Native American. It is based on the unusual “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven” by Sherman Alexie, who also published a movie adaptation of “Smoke Signals” as well.

The majority of the cast is from a variety of Canadian First Nations tribes (Skim Salish, Cree, Cayuga, Ojibwa), so there are different cultural backgrounds at work as well. “Smoke Signals” is a streak of the heart, an exploration of what it means to be Indian, venturing into the world outside the rez. Thomas’s stories are fragment Indian fable, fraction reweaving of the facts surrounding Victor and his father.

The legend follows Victor Joseph as he goes to rep the remains of his father, who had abandoned his family and moved to Arizona (the film’s working title was “This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix, Arizona,” based on a chapter of “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven.” His wise friend Thomas Builds-the-Fire goes with him on a flow from their rez in Coeur-d’Alene, Idaho to Arnold Joseph’s trailer in Arizona. Along the diagram they rediscover their pasts and their perceptions of the world around them.

An fresh, touching film that pokes fun at the stoic Indian stereotypes endorsed by Hollywood for decades, such as the “It’s a sterling day to die” line. There are many significant First Nations actors (Adam Beach, Evan Adams, Tantoo Cardinal, Irene Bedard, Gary Farmer, Elaine Miles) that form this film a joy to peep. Inspired performances from all, especially Adam Beach and Gary Farmer. This is my favourite film of the last few years as it never loses its humour, mystical side, and beauty.

Lately there has been an influx of original revenge films about raped women who go on killing sprees. With the unusual releases of the likes of Awful Reputation, Baise Moi, and now Defenceless, one almost feels like they are reliving the turn of the 1980’s when such films as I Spit on Your Grave, and Miss. 45 assaulted cinema goers around the world. Defenceless, with its many lurid internet images of its blond headed blood soaked Germanic heroine Susanne Hausschmid, walking the grassy treeless shoreline in a skimpy sad halter top, works as effectively as a liquor add on the male libido. Even after hold, the product continues to intice the senses with its four boastful awards from the Melbourne Underground dotting the mask. They proclaim Defenceless to have the best director, cinematography, and actress, while also being the best movie of the entire year. Once unwrapped we bag that the film has plenty of special features including a commentary track and making of featurette. Most impressive of all however, is the six pages of liner notes, which contains a production diary beefy of slack the scenes stories and film shots. Indeed, with all the care utilized in the packaging, one almost feels like they have objective purchased a Criterion Collection release rather then a typical dime a dozen DVD. If there is one thing that Defenceless does do correct, it’s its ability to accomplish up ones expectations and hopes about the treasures that unbiased might be hiding within the contents of the film itself. The irony here is that once you do area the disc in the tray and push play, you realize within moments that you have objective been bamboozled grand time. This film is not unbiased dreadful, its flat out extraordinary in how terrible it actually is.

Is it art or unprejudiced a cop out?

In case you haven’t heard, Defenceless is a still film, which is to say that there is no talking or sound effects, unbiased a musical obtain that plays along with the action. The view of this tactic almost seems like it was an ingenious artistic endeavor, but before you position a badge for creativity on this production, you should ask yourself the quiz. Honest what are the advantages to making a film when you consume only the images while disposing of the sound? The most simple answere to this query is the very key to sparkling what the contents of Defenceless are actually going to be like. With the sound jettisoned, the director can simply scream the cast honest what to do, what expression to have, and how to behave. It makes it so that the production team does not really have to disaster considerable about things like tale boards, they can simply talk a cast through the moves, and film and print the rehearsals like Ed Wood JR. Had this feature been made by my buddies in cable access I would of been some what impressed, because not having a production cost is the only plan to define or excuse Defenceless. In a cable access production a director would hope that their unpaid friends would indicate up on a given time, at a given set, be able to do a move through of the scenes once or twice, and then have enough time left over to prefer the needed scenes on tape before their friends have to go help home or go help to work. This is exactly what Defenceless is like, proper down to the flat blank shabby porno movie lighting, cam corder looking images, and constant utilize of the dissolve edit feature in which one scene slowly bleeds and fades away into the next status of images.

Can’t spoil an already depraved film with spoilers.

As cardboard phony as the soap opera like “cough cough” film stock looks, the acting of this best actress of the year is equally painful to sit through. The absurd sage is about a woman who refuses to sale her beach front property to greedy substandard land developers who in turn try to force her to sale the property by killing off her family friends and lovers. First to die is her husband, who for some reason is dressed like an assassin. She is sent a postcard with a portray of his battered corpse and warning to sale or else. Now, not only does she not acquire this proof to the police immediately, or act out the explosive emotions a person would feel at such a unpleasant discovery, she instead acts like she might of left a bag of groceries at the check out line. I am not lying here, when you sight this moment you can literally hear what the director was telling her to do inside your head.

“Now act dusky…Sadder…Sadder…Vast! now bring your hand up to your face…Grab your temple…Rub it…Rub it…Vast now act like you have a migraine…Tremendous…That’s big…Its a wrap…Print it!”

Suffice to say that this moment does not imprint the viewer with its realism.

Next she meets a woman and they instantly become lovers, because its better to have two naked chicks in an exploitation film then objective one. Then she is sent a video tape ( more proof ) of her newly aquired lover being gang raped and murdered with further warnings to sale or else. Our herione brakes down by doing a prolonged artsy scene to heart felt music while of course being fully naked in the shower. Instead of coming as glorious, or grieful, or artsy, or erotic, this moment feels as uncomfortably embarrassing as watching one of the Brady Bunch boys trying to ask a girl out on a date. Next to net killed is her child, who’s sole reason for being in the film is to futher the justification of the mutilations that will be perpetrated on the villans durring the final act. It is then that she herself is captured, then raped, and then beaten, and then murdered. The villans thus toss her listless body into the ocean and choose her land. She is later discovered by a young girl who’s innocent fascination in her magically brings her serve to life. But the disagreeable land developers are some sportive folks who indulge in tourmenting her after death so they even slay the puny girl off too ( I guess this fraction of Australia must have the worst police force on the planet ) . It is then that her ghost rises out of the water and goes on its blood thirsty rampage. I do not know who’s concept it was to have Susanne Hausschmid’s character act out the mannerisms of a bird to simulate a raised from the wearisome remorseless killing machine, but it warrents most droll acting of the year rather then best acting. Yes folks, our heroine walks around with hatchets, knives and other implaments of distruction, covered in blood, and cutting off mens privates while cocking her head side to side like Tweety Bird. While bird lady is doing this, she has an expression on her face that looks as if she is doing all she can not to laugh, and why not? It’s impartial as hard for anyone to sustain a straight face while watching this vapid curiosity.

I would like to lastly spot that I did not write this review because I indulge in bashing things. Quite the contrary, this review serves as a warning that many aged cliche’s are indeed proper. In this case, you can not inform a book by its screen. If you tranquil mediate that I am chubby of malarky and rob this feature anyway, then I suggest that you call in sick the day after watching it so that you have astronomical of time to ice up your washer womans elbow. For you are going to utilize most of your viewing time of Defenceless pressing down the hastily forward button looking for any moment that doesn’t stink.

I only wish it had the Current “Were the Chipmunks…” theme song from the 80’s cartoon. I hope they release a regular dwelling of the cartoon soon too.

Also comes with a Archie cartoon and a Monster Cartoon

This DVD is a sizable grasp! The narrate is splendid, and I have failed to discover one flaw in this DVD.

If you have shrimp children, introudce them to Alvin and the gang, they won’t be disspointed, and in my opion, it’s better than today’s programming. (Blue’s clues, Dora the explorer etc)

:D I hope you have a broad time watching this DVD like I did!

My husband had been asking me to survey this movie with him for years – it was one of his favorites (from before we met), even though he continually called it a “chick flick”… I was hesitant to examine it because I had the opinion that it would be a sunless movie – and I honest don’t like movies that leave me blubbering & saddened for the rest of the day.

However, last weekend we finally sat down and watched it together, and I was pleasantly surprised! Although there was 1 or 2 parts that led me to bawl, it was not what I would categorize as a “dismal” movie – in fact, when I really contemplate about it, it was quite uplifting…

“Fried Green Tomatoes” weaves the life experiences of 3 very different women – 2 of them lived their youth about 50 or 60 years ago, and one is currently 40 something years outmoded.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Fried Green Tomatoes! Click Here

The yarn revolves around an “ragged” woman who is sharing her & her friends life experiences with the younger, 40-something woman. This younger woman is quite wretched, feeling like a weakling who doesn’t really matter. She gains strength and a will to really LIVE through the stories shared with her. Spending time with the “musty woman” becomes an essential, life changing event for her – helping her to step-up and be the woman she truly wants to be.

This movie shows the importance of being willing to listen & learn from others – as well as the wealth of knowledge & experience that our elderly population has – if only we would occupy the time to select them in discussion & listen to what they have to offer.

Overall, I give this movie “2 thumbs up”! If you’re at all keen in human growth, and the “ample passe days”, then this movie’s for you!

Every decade has its chick flicks that justify those years and feature a who’s who of up-and-coming actresses mixed with veterans. In the 1980s, it was Steel Magnolias and in the 1990s it was Fried Green Tomatoes, a southern folktale based on the original by Fannie Flagg (who also co-wrote the screenplay) .

Fried Green Tomatoes is a attractive shot film that really evokes the rich, lush setting of the Deep South. Director Jon Avnet also uses warm colours to originate an challenging atmosphere that draws the audience in. There is valid artistic integrity to the camerawork which gives the film a Classic Hollywood vibe.

Fried Green Tomatoes is the perfect inactive Sunday summer afternoon movie that evokes simpler times. The film makes us be pleased taking the time out of our busy lives to cessation and smell the roses as it were. The film espouses a simple yet vital message of tolerance and compassion towards one another but not in a preachy device. It is a message that is certainly applicable today (maybe even more so) making Fried Green Tomatoes even more relevant.

There are a collection of “Deleted Scenes” that are really fair small bits of added footage tagged on at the destroy of or in-between scenes. There is nothing too memorable here.

Also included, is an silly collection of “Outtakes,” featuring flubs and blown lines.

“Moments of Discovery: The Making of Fried Green Tomatoes” is an spirited, endearing retrospective documentary that runs honest over an hour. Expedient news for fans is that Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker contribute unusual interviews and warmly acquire filming anecdotes, including working in the intense Georgian heat, how Masterson really handled all those bees and Parker’s run-in with some unfavorable leeches. This is a must-watch for any fan of this movie.

“Sipsey’s Recipes” include accurate recipes for over 15 dishes that are taken from Flagg’s book and that allow you to recreate the Whistle Cessation Café’s cuisine. This is a really nice touch.

“Jon Avnet’s Director’s Notes” includes script excerpts with specific directions he archaic as a guide when making the movie.

There are “Production Photographs” that include behind-the-scenes pics of the delectable food and also the movie crew at work.

“Poster Campaign” features various poster designs for the movie, including some really nice hand-drawn ones that are quite artistic in nature.

Finally, there is an audio commentary by director Jon Avnet. He takes us through his filmmaking process switching serve and forth between talking about the themes of the film and production anecdotes.
